Random Vibration of a Beam Column

This is one of the beam-column problems on which little work has been done for random loading on random boundary conditions.

Studies of columns of beads under external vibrations
Physical Review E, 1994As a toy model for dissipative granular materials, we investigate a one-dimensional column of beads undergoing external vibrations. The analysis is both experimental and numerical. We display the crossover from a condensed to a fluidized state of the column; the parameters are the agitation, the number of beads, and the momentum restitution coefficient.

Advances in Science and Technology, 2008Increasing heights of tall buildings often require supplementary damping system for occupant comfort in windy condition. This paper presents a liquid column vibration absorber (LCVA) installed in a 64-story building, which is the highest residential building with flat plate structural system in Korea, for mitigation of wind-induced motion.
