System identification and structural health monitoring of bridge structures [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
This research study addresses two issues for the identification of structural characteristics of civil infrastructure systems. The first one is related to the problem of dynamic system identification, by means of experimental and operational modal ...

Vibration absorber for spring-mass system using a hanging heavy column with rotationally restrained end

open access: yes, 2020
For suppression of vibration of structures modeled by a spring-mass system, we propose an innovative vibration absorber comprising a hanging heavy column attached to the mass by a pinned joint with an elastic rotational spring.

Self‐Assembled Inorganic Nanomembrane Tubes: Rolled‐Up Piezoelectrics for Microacoustic Wave‐Based Actuators and Sensors

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
This study demonstrates a self‐assembly process to generate free‐standing piezoelectric nanomembranes, forming ultracompact microtubular acoustic wave sensors and actuators. The miniaturized 3D piezoelectric platform reported in this work can be applied in telecommunication, energy harvesting, and acoustofluidics. Moreover, the 3D self‐assembly can add

Load-response determination for imperfect column using vibratory data

open access: yes, 2014
In addition to the initial crook to a column, the structural integrity is often not as reliable as expected due to the immaturity of current engineering techniques.

3D Anodic Alumina Nanoarchitectures: A Decade of Progress from Foundational Science to Functional Metamaterials

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Ordered three‐dimensional anodic aluminum oxide (3D‐AAO) nanoarchitectures with longitudinal and transverse pores enable architecture‐driven metamaterials. The review maps fabrication advances, including hybrid pulse anodization, and shows how 3D‐AAO templates tailor properties across magnetism, energy, catalysis, and sensing.

Study on Vibration Reduction Effect of the Building Structure Equipped with Intermediate Column–Lever Viscous Damper

open access: yesBuildings
Generally speaking, the traditional lever amplification damping system is installed between adjacent columns in a building, which occupies a significant amount of space in the building.

FE sloshing modelling in bidimensional cavity using wave equation

open access: yesMATEC Web of Conferences, 2018
Tuned liquid column damper (TLCD) is a kind of passive damper that use water sloshing motion to control structural vibration in tall buildings, wind turbines and ships.

Polymorph‐Specific Electronic Transduction in WO3 during Molecular Sensing

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Metal‐oxide polymorphs with similar surface chemistry can nevertheless exhibit distinct sensing properties. In γ‐ and ε‐WO3, analyte adsorption appears comparable; yet, only ε‐WO3 induces a pronounced lattice electronic perturbation that accommodates charge in sub‐conduction band minimum states.

Mitigation of wind-induced vibration of a tall residential building using liquid column vibration absorber [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
The most important thing in applying mass type dampers including Liquid Column Vibration Absorber (LCVA) is tuning its natural frequency to an optimum value which is a function of the natural frequency of the building and the mass ratio of damper to the ...
