Thermoreflectance Detection of Point Defects Resulting from Focused Ion Beam Milling

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Focused ion beam (FIB) milling is a common tool for nanoscale material processing, however irradiation damage, redeposition, and contamination can occur. We use several characterization tools to show FIB‐induced effects beyond 1 mm from the milled area.

Design and Experimental Research of a Rotary Micro-Actuator Based on a Shearing Piezoelectric Stack

open access: yesMicromachines, 2019
The working principle of a rotating micro-actuator based on a piezoelectric stack was theoretically analyzed and experimentally verified. The actuator is compact in structure, and the key component is the shearing piezoelectric stack.

Vector control method applied to a traveling wave in a finite beam [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
This paper presents the closed-loop control of exciters to produce a traveling wave in a finite beam. This control is based on a dynamical modeling of the system established in a rotating reference frame.

Experimental Evaluation of 100Cr6 Steel Microindented Surfaces Under Lubricated Nonconformal Point Contacts

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The tribological behavior of 100Cr6 steel spheres textured via Vickers microindentation is evaluated under lubricated sliding by varying both dimple size and density. Fine and dense textures significantly reduce friction across all lubrication regimes, while large dimples increase it.

Study of combustion flow field in a scramjet engine under inflow oscillation variations based on OpenFOAM

open access: yesCase Studies in Thermal Engineering
In this study, a compressible supersonic numerical model was established based on the open-source computational fluid dynamics software OpenFOAM. The supersonic air inflow was set in sinusoidal variation and gas hydrogen was employed as fuel for the DLR ...

Structural Parameter Optimization of a Tubular Permanent-Magnet Linear Machine for Regenerative Suspension

open access: yesShock and Vibration, 2019
The regenerative suspension can effectively recover the vibration potential energy of the vehicle suspension, thus has broad prospects in application. In this paper, a tubular permanent-magnet linear motor (TPMLM) with the Halbach array magnetic pole is ...

A soft sandwich structure enables voltage-induced actuation of liquid metal embedded elastomers

open access: yesAIP Advances, 2020
Dispersing liquid metal droplets in a soft elastomer matrix yields a composite, called liquid metal embedded elastomer (LMEE), with less modified stiffness but noticeably increased relative permittivity.

Low‐Cost, Large‐Scale Nanoporous Metals by Mechanical Alloying, Oxide Reduction, and Dealloying of Powders

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Powder metal processing provides scalable advantages in nanoporous (np) metal development. Mechanical alloying is used to produce unique precursors for hybrid nanopore formation by oxide reduction and dealloying. As demonstrated in np Ag, this approach improves process efficiency while promoting smaller ligaments and larger pores, both of which are ...

Analysis of Hysteretic Failure Mechanism of Cylindrical Shell Considering the Influence of Diameter-to-thickness Ratio

open access: yesTaiyuan Ligong Daxue xuebao, 2023
In order to clarify the influence of diameter-to-thickness ratio on the hysteretic behavior of cylindrical shells, the hysteretic failure modes and energy dissipation capacity of cylindrical shells with different diameter-to-thickness ratios were studied

Innovative Processing of Compacted Waste Aluminum Alloy Powders via Controlled Remelting and Solidification

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study demonstrates an efficient recycling route for out‐of‐spec AlSi10Mg atomized powders through compaction and arc remelting followed by suction casting. By correlating compaction load, cooling rate, and resulting microstructure, we show that intermediate pressures (50–80 kN) and rapid cooling refine dendrites, reduce porosity, and enhance ...
