Current Collector Engineering for New Efficient Bioresorbable Sodium‐Ion Batteries

open access: yesAdvanced Science, Volume 13, Issue 53, 24 September 2026.
A bioresorbable Na‐ion battery is proposed with Mo or Mg thin‐film current collectors for temporary implants. Mo‐based batteries exhibit superior electrochemical performance and stable cycling compared with Mg counterparts. XPS was used to investigate the Mo/Mg surface oxidation.

Unsteady Aerodynamics Research of Pinniped Vibrissae for Biomimicry Applications

open access: yes, 2021
This thesis reports on the research and testing of the unsteady aerodynamics of pinniped vibrissae, specifically harbor seal whiskers, in relation to their unique ability to suppress drag, lift, pressure, and vortex shedding frequency.

Evaluation of Rhodamine B as a biomarker for assessing bait acceptance in wild pigs

open access: yesWildlife Society Bulletin, 2015
Worldwide, there is growing interest in the use of pharmaceutical baits to control populations of wild pigs (Sus scrofa). In this study we evaluated the utility of Rhodamine B (RB), a chemical marker commonly used in wildlife research and management, as ...

Dihydrotestosterone Promotes Hetian Sheep Dermal Papilla Cell Proliferation by Inhibiting the TGF‐β/Smad Signalling Pathway

open access: yesVeterinary Medicine and Science, Volume 12, Issue 5, September 2026.
This study successfully isolated Dermal Papilla Cells (DPCs) from Hetian sheep and established a stable in vitro culture system for these cells. It was found that androgens promote the proliferation of Hetian sheep DPCs by inhibiting the expression of genes in the TGF‐β/Smad signalling pathway, thereby influencing hair follicle development. Furthermore,

Isotopic evidence for the consumption of Galliformes by the red fox (Vulpes vulpes) in rural southern England

open access: yesWildlife Biology, Volume 2026, Issue 5, September 2026.
Anthropogenic resource subsidies can drive mesopredator population growth, altering predator–prey dynamics. The red fox Vulpes vulpes is a generalist canid that can readily exploit such subsidies. In the UK, tens of millions of pheasants Phasianus colchicus and red‐legged partridges Alectoris rufa are released annually for sport shooting, potentially ...

First record of the forensically important genus Protopiophila Duda (Diptera: Piophilidae) from South Korea and an integrative framework for forensic identification

open access: yesJournal of Forensic Sciences, Volume 71, Issue 5, Page 2405-2414, September 2026.
Abstract The family Piophilidae is of significant forensic importance due to its association with late‐stage decomposition; however, the Korean piophilid fauna remains poorly studied, lacking comprehensive morphological and molecular data. This study reports the first record of the genus Protopiophila Duda from South Korea.

Increases in the numerical density of GAT-1 positive puncta in the barrel cortex of adult mice after fear conditioning.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2014
Three days of fear conditioning that combines tactile stimulation of a row of facial vibrissae (conditioned stimulus, CS) with a tail shock (unconditioned stimulus, UCS) expands the representation of "trained" vibrissae, which can be demonstrated by ...

Long-term diet-induced obesity does not lead to learning and memory impairment in adult mice.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2021
Obesity arising from excessive dietary fat intake is a risk factor for cognitive decline, dementia and neurodegenerative diseases, including Alzheimer's disease. Here, we studied the effect of long-term high-fat diet (HFD) (24 weeks) and return to normal

Vibrissa Resonance as a Transduction Mechanism for Tactile Encoding [PDF]

open access: yesThe Journal of Neuroscience, 2003
We present evidence that resonance properties of rat vibrissae differentially amplify high-frequency and complex tactile signals. Consistent with a model of vibrissa mechanics, optical measurements of vibrissae revealed that their first mechanical resonance frequencies systematically varied from low (60-100 Hz) in longer, posterior vibrissae to high ...

Vibrissae motor cortex unit activity during whisking

open access: yes, 2012
Rats generate stereotyped exploratory (5–12 Hz) vibrissa movements when navigating through their environment. Like other rhythmic behaviors, the production of whisking relies on a subcortical pattern generator.
