Impact of seeding rate, seeding date, rate and method of phosphorus application in faba bean (Vicia faba L. minor) in the absence of moisture stress [PDF]

open access: yesBiotechnologie, Agronomie, Société et Environnement, 2002
Field experiments were conducted during the winter seasons of 1998-1999, 1999-2000 and 2000-2001 at the semi-arid region in north of Jordan, to study the effect of seeding dates (14 January, 28 January and 12 February), seeding rates (50, 75 and 100 ...

Response of Vicia species to Ascochyta fabae and Uromyces viciae-fabae [PDF]

open access: yesCzech Journal of Genetics and Plant Breeding, 2014
A collection of 267 accessions belonging to 61 Vicia species other than V. fab a was screened under growth chamber conditions for response to Ascochyta fabae and Uromyces viciae-fabae, causal agents of ascochyta blight and faba bean rust, respectively. High resistance to both diseases was very frequently detected in Vicia spp.

Ethyl formate diluted with nitrogen is an effective biosecurity treatment for brown marmorated stink bug (Halyomorpha halys)

open access: yesPest Management Science, EarlyView.
This research found that ethyl formate effectively controls adult brown marmorated stink bugs (Halyomorpha halys) regardless of dormancy state or temperature, at concentrations nine times lower than previous studies. Abstract BACKGROUND The brown marmorated stink bug (Halyomorpha halys) (BSMB) is a biosecurity threat globally. Its most likely avenue of

Field investigation of glucosinolates and morphological traits in mitigating Psylliodes chrysocephala larval infestation through crop varieties and companion planting

open access: yesPest Management Science, EarlyView.
Genotype and cropping system influenced oilseed rape ecophysiological traits, including glucosinolate compounds (glucoraphanin, glucobrassicanapin, and butyl‐glucosinolates) and biomass, which were linked to Psylliodes chrysocephala larval infestation, with varietal effects stronger than faba bean companion planting.

Towards an attract‐and‐reward strategy: evaluating nectar resources and HIPVs under laboratory conditions to enhance Aphelinus mali parasitism activity, a key parasitoid of Eriosoma lanigerum

open access: yesPest Management Science, EarlyView.
Euphorbia segetalis is a promising attractant insectary plant for Aphelinus mali. Meanwhile, Vicia faba and Vicia sativa are a promising nectar resource to sustain the parasitoid in early spring when the population of Eriosoma lanigerum is low, and honeydew is scarce.
