First Report of Ascochyta Blight of Vicia hirsuta (Hairy Tare) in the Republic of Georgia Caused by Ascochyta sp.

Tan lesions with dark margins containing concentric rings of black pycnidia were observed on leaves and pods of hairy tare (Vicia hirsuta L.) growing near Ateni, GA (41°54.631′N, 44°05.586′E, elev. 730 m) on 1 July 2004. Lesions were reminiscent of those induced by Ascochyta rabiei (Pass.) Labrousse on chickpea (Cicer arietinum L.).

Purification and characterization of lectins from Vicia hirsuta

The presence of three lectins in the seeds of Vicia hirsuta (L.) S. F. Gray, a wild‐growing vetch, was shown. The main lectin was purified to homogeneity by buffer extraction, ammonium sulfate precipitation, affinity chromatography on Sephadex G‐100 and isoelectric focusing in granulated gel.

The promoter of the Vicia faba L. VfENOD-GRP3 gene encoding a glycine-rich early nodulin mediates a predominant gene expression in the interzone II-III region of transgenic Vicia hirsuta root nodules

We recently reported on the broad bean gene VfENOD-GRP3 encoding a glycine-rich early nodulin. This gene was predominantly expressed in the interzone II-III region of Vicia faba root nodules. The VfENOD-GRP3 promoter contained several sequence motifs potentially involved in the regulation of gene expression.

Nodule-specific transcript sequences of the Vicia faba VfNOD28/32 gene encode six different late nodulins composed of two types of repetitive sequence modules flanked by unique N- and C-terminal modules (Kuster et al. 1994, 1996). In Medicago sativa, Kiss et al. (1990) and Vegh et al. (1990) identified the MsNOD25 gene encoding the late nodulin Nms-25.
