Learning Binary Residual Representations for Domain-specific Video Streaming

open access: yes, 2017
We study domain-specific video streaming. Specifically, we target a streaming setting where the videos to be streamed from a server to a client are all in the same domain and they have to be compressed to a small size for low-latency transmission ...

Identification and Characterization of an In Silico Designed Membrane‐Active Peptide with Antiviral Properties

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
An evolutionary molecular dynamics platform is used to design P1.6, a membrane‐active peptide that senses lipid packing defects in viral envelopes. P1.6 adopts a stabilized α‐helical structure upon membrane contact, disrupts virus‐like liposomes, and damages HIV‐1 particles.

Convergent and Divergent Connectivity Patterns of the Arcuate Fasciculus in Macaques and Humans

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study employs viral‐based single‐neuron tracing and dMRI‐based whole‐brain tractography to investigate arcuate fasciculus (AF) trajectories in macaque monkeys, and compares with the human AF connectome using spectral embedding. Results demonstrate conserved AF topography spanning temporoparietal‐auditory‐frontal pathways across primates, with ...

Miniature Robotic Swimmer with Precise 2D Motion Control via Acoustic Vortex‐Induced Propulsion

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
In this work, a miniature robotic swimmer achieves precise 2D motion using sound waves with customized 3D‐printed lenses. Localized acoustic vortices drive both translation and rotation of the swimmer without mechanical parts. This contactless approach offers a novel route to controlled micro‐scale movement, with promising applications in biomedical ...

Membrane‐Mediated Force Transduction Drives Stick‐Slip Motion of Lipid Vesicles

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A rotating magnetic field actuates a ferromagnetic particle inside a lipid vesicle, generating internal flows that induce stick‐slip propulsion near a surface. Membrane properties—elasticity, excess area, and phase behavior—modulate this motion by shaping stress dissipation and force transduction.

Flare: Practical Viewport-Adaptive 360-Degree Video Streaming for Mobile Devices

open access: yesACM/IEEE International Conference on Mobile Computing and Networking, 2018
Flare is a practical system for streaming 360-degree videos on commodity mobile devices. It takes a viewport-adaptive approach, which fetches only portions of a panoramic scene that cover what a viewer is about to perceive.
