Under the scanning microscope the epidermal cells of the leaf of Vigna unguiculata are irregular, mostly polygonal. The adaxial (upper) and the abaxial (Jower) surfaces exhibit two kinds of trichomes: some hooked hairs with a dilated base, and abundant glandular, multicellular hairs.
