A walk in the park—Identifying healthy greenspaces using scents

open access: yesPLANTS, PEOPLE, PLANET, EarlyView.
As urbanisation accelerates globally, access to nature is increasingly recognised as vital for public health and wellbeing. We captured and analysed plant‐emitted airborne ‘scent signatures’ across Oxford's urban greenspaces to assess their potential health relevance.

Host plant‐specific volatiles of Beauveria bassiana‐colonized plants initiate trophic plant–aphid–predator cascades

open access: yesPest Management Science, EarlyView.
Endophytic colonization of melon plants by B. bassiana modifies the crop volatile profiles in a genotype‐dependent manner. A predator choice is biased toward endophytically colonized plants infested with aphids revealing a guardian within effect of the fungus of great potential in integrated pest management.

Forecast‐Error Diagnostics in Neural Weather Models

open access: yesQuarterly Journal of the Royal Meteorological Society, EarlyView.
Deep learning weather prediction models enable efficient forecast‐error diagnostics through auto‐differentiation and low computational cost. We apply grid‐point relaxation and gradient‐based error sensitivity to identify key forecast‐error sources. Results show that medium‐range forecasts in the midlatitudes benefit most from relaxing the stratosphere ...
