A chimeric VIP-PACAP analogue but not VIP pseudopeptides function as VIP receptor antagonists
Peptides, 1994The ability to assess the importance of VIP in different physiological processes is limited by the lack of specific potent antagonists. In the present study, we have adopted two different approaches used successfully with other peptides in an attempt to identify new VIP receptor antagonists.

Vasoactive intestinal polypeptide (VIP) is derived from a 170 amino acid precursor which in addition is processed to preproVIP 22-79, PHI, preproVIP 111-122 and preproVIP 156-170. All preproVIP-derived peptides have been shown in normal tissue and VIP-producing cell lines and elevated quantities occur in plasma and tumour tissues from patients with VIP-

The following review outlines the physiological outcome of VIP and VIP gene manipulations. Previously, we reviewed the various VIP receptors associated with biological functions ranging from growth regulation, sexual function, bronchodilation, vasodilation and immune interactions to neurotrophism. VIP-based drug design is discussed below.

Abstract: VIP1 receptors are present In breast cancer cells. VIP elevates the cAMP and stimulates nuclear oncogene expression In MCF‐7 cells. VIPhybrid is a VIP receptor antagonist that Inhibits breast cancer proliferation. A VIP analog has been developed for imagIng breast tumors.

The question about special health program for VIP's has been discussed several times. A definition of VIP is a key person either in top management or a person with unique competence in an organization. In small companies you find 5-10 VIP's, in bigger companies up to 50. Our customers indicated a positive interest in a new type of program.

VIP and autonomic neurotransmission
Pharmacology & Therapeutics, 1989A variety of peptides have been proposed as transmitter candidates in non-cholinergic, non-adrenergic nerves. The nerves containing vasoactive intestinal polypeptide (VIP), which innervate blood vessels, non-vascular smooth muscle, mucosal epithelium and glands comprise a major and wide-spread population of the peptide-containing systems.
