Vip3Aa induces apoptosis in cultured Spodoptera frugiperda (Sf9) cells

Toxicon, 2016
The vegetative insecticidal proteins (Vip) secreted by many Bacillus thuringiensis strains during their vegetative growth stage are regarded as second generation insecticidal proteins, as they share no sequence or structural homology with known crystal insecticidal proteins (Cry) and have a broad insecticidal spectrum.

Novel functional characterization of the insecticidal protein Vip3Aa on DNA binding activity

Biochemical and Biophysical Research Communications, 2020
The toxicity of Vip3Aa protein on insect pests is known, however, it remains unclear underlying the structure-dependent molecular function of the Vip3Aa protein. To investigate the novel function of the Vip3Aa protein, we isolated recombinant Vip3Aa protein.

Proteolytic activation of Bacillus thuringiensis Vip3Aa protein by Spodoptera exigua midgut protease

International Journal of Biological Macromolecules, 2018
Proteolysis of Vip3Aa by insect midgut proteases is essential for their toxicity against target insects. In the present study, proteolysis of Vip3Aa was evaluated by Spodoptera exigua midgut proteases (MJ). Trypsin was verified involved in the activation of Vip3Aa and three potential cleavage sites (Lys195, Lys197 and Lys198) were identified.

Intracellular localization and cytotoxicity of Bacillus thuringiensis Vip3Aa against Spodoptera frugiperda (Sf9) cells

Journal of Invertebrate Pathology, 2020
Vip3Aa protein is produced by Bacillus thuringiensis during vegetative growth and displays high toxicity against a wide range of lepidopteran insect larvae such as Spodoptera exigua and Spodoptera frugiperda, both important insect pests worldwide. Vip3Aa protein is synthesized as a protoxin (proVip3Aa) and becomes activated by digestion with either ...

Vip3Aa from Bacillus thuringiensis subsp. kurstaki HD1 is toxic to Aedes aegypti (Diptera: Culicidae)

Journal of Invertebrate Pathology, 2020
Bacillus thuringensis (Bt) vegetative insecticidal proteins share no sequence or structural homology with the known Cry proteins. The activity of Vip3Aa is generally considered to be restricted to lepidopteran insects. In this paper, the vip3Aa gene was cloned from Bt subsp. kurstaki HD1 and expressed in E. coli.

Responses to Bt toxin Vip3Aa by pink bollworm larvae resistant or susceptible to Cry toxins

Pest Management Science, 2022
AbstractBACKGROUNDTransgenic crops that make insecticidal proteins from Bacillus thuringiensis (Bt) have revolutionized management of some pests. However, evolution of resistance to Bt toxins by pests diminishes the efficacy of Bt crops. Resistance to crystalline (Cry) Bt toxins has spurred adoption of crops genetically engineered to produce the Bt ...
