The Comparative Full-Length Genome Characterization of African Swine Fever Virus Detected in Thailand

open access: yesAnimals
African swine fever virus (ASFV) has been responsible for the globally devastating epidemics in wild and domesticated pigs. Of the 24 identified ASFV genotypes, genotype II is the primary cause for the pandemic occurring in Europe and Asia since its ...

IMPDH inhibition enhances cytarabine efficacy in SAMHD1‐expressing leukaemia cells via guanine nucleotide depletion

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Cytarabine is a key therapy for acute myeloid leukaemia (AML), but its efficacy is limited by the dNTPase SAMHD1, which hydrolyses its active metabolite. Screening nucleotide biosynthesis inhibitors revealed that IMPDH inhibitors selectively sensitise SAMHD1‐proficient AML cells to cytarabine.

CCDC80 suppresses high‐grade serous ovarian cancer migration via negative regulation of B7‐H3

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
PAX8 is a lineage‐specific master regulator of transcription in high‐grade serous ovarian cancer (HGSC) progression. We show for the first time that PAX8 facilitates proliferation and metastasis by repressing the cell autonomous tumor suppressor CCDC80 and inducing B7‐H3 expression.

E2A selectively regulates TGF‐β–induced apoptosis in KRAS‐mutant non‐small cell lung cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Ability to induce apoptosis by TGF‐β is frequently lost in advanced lung adenocarcinoma despite intact TGF‐β signaling. We identify E2A as a mutant KRAS–dependent mediator of resistance to TGF‐β–induced apoptosis. TGF‐β induces E2A via SMAD3 in mutant KRAS cells, and E2A silencing restores apoptosis and enhances radiation response in cell lines ...

The age and evolution of an antiviral resistance mutation in Drosophila melanogaster [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
What selective processes underlie the evolution of parasites and their hosts? Arms-race models propose that new host-resistance mutations or parasite counter-adaptations arise and sweep to fixation.

Evolvability drives innovation in viral genomes

open access: yes, 2016
International audienceViruses have very short and compact genomes and very high mutation rates. Despite these characteristics, they are known to evolve by bursts, periods of high evolution rates alternating with periods of high stability.

The development of a lateral flow immunochromatographic test strip for measurement of specific IgA and IgG antibodies level against porcine epidemic diarrhea virus in pig milk

open access: yesVeterinary Quarterly
Porcine epidemic diarrhea virus (PEDV) causes severe enteric disease and high mortality in neonatal piglets, leading to significant economic losses in the swine industry. Considering that passive lactogenic immunity is crucial for preventing infection in

Hijacking emergency granulopoiesis: Neutrophil ontogeny and reprogramming in cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Neutrophils are highly plastic innate immune cells; their functions in cancer extend beyond the tumour microenvironment. This Review summarises current understanding of neutrophil maturation and heterogeneity and highlights tumour‐induced granulopoiesis as a systemic programme that expands immature, immunosuppressive neutrophils via tumour‐derived ...

Polyomavirus BK with rearranged noncoding control region emerge in vivo in renal transplant patients and increase viral replication and cytopathology [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Immunosuppression is required for BK viremia and polyomavirus BK-associated nephropathy (PVAN) in kidney transplants (KTs), but the role of viral determinants is unclear.
