The human immunodeficiency virus type 1 matrix (MA) protein is phosphorylated during virion maturation on its C-terminal tyrosine and on several serine residues. Whereas MA tyrosine phosphorylation facilitates viral nuclear import, the significance of MA serine phosphorylation remains unclear.

Somatic variants of the neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF1) gene occur across neoplasms without clinical manifestation of the disease NF1. We identified emerging somatic pathogenic NF1 variants and hotspots, for example, at the arginine finger 1276. Those missense variants provide fundamental information about neurofibromin's role in cancer.

Inhibition of Banzi Viral RNA Synthesis in BHK-21 Cells by Banzi Virion Matrix Protein

Treatment of BHK-21 cells with purified matrix (M) protein isolated from Banzi virions resulted in decreased production of Banzi virus and in reduced levels of virus-specific positive-strand and negative-strand RNA. The M protein had no effect on the uncoating of the viral genome.
