A novel approach to form second virtual cathode by installing a floating zone plate inside the drift tube

open access: yesResults in Physics, 2020
In this study, a new mechanism is proposed to develop a second virtual cathode (VC2). An axial vircator was simulated by adding a floating zone plate (ZP) inside the drift tube, which is designed at the dominant frequency of 3.42 GHz.

Assessing Vircators’ Reliability Through Uncertainty and Sensitivity Analyses Using a Surrogate Model

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2020
The performances of Vircators have been reported in different studies showing that a high discrepancy between the simulated and measured output peak power and radiating frequency can be encountered. Limited investigations have been reported where the one-

Improved Vlasov Antenna with Curved Cuts and Optimized Reflector Position and Shape

open access: yesInternational Journal of Antennas and Propagation, Volume 2015, Issue 1, 2015., 2015
This paper presents a Vlasov antenna with curved cut shape and improved reflector position and geometry suitable for high power microwave applications. The curved shape of the proposed cut totally eliminates the sharp edges and angles present in Vlasov antennas with step and bevel cuts.

On the virtual cathode oscillator’s energy optimization

open access: yesAIP Advances, 2018
This paper presents a method for the maximization of the energy radiated by a Vircator at a given band of frequencies. The research focuses on axially extracted Vircators.

A FRAMEWORK FOR PEAK POWER EXCEEDANCES OF HIGH POWER MICROWAVE RADIATORS APPLIED TO A VIRCATOR SURROGATE MODEL

open access: yes, 2021
Uncertainty quantification and variability analysis are two domains of interest when looking at the efficiency of HPEM sources. Vircator is known to be a low efficiency high power microwave source subject to several generally volatile phenomena such as ...

Resonance effect on a coaxial vircator

open access: yesActa Physica Sinica, 2006
Some experiments at Institute of Applied Electronics of CAEP showed that the interaction between the virtual cathode oscillator and the cavity is a key factor in determining the output microwave power and propagating modes. Particularly, we observed that the E-beam plays an important role in the cavity formation.

Simulation of an Axial Vircator

open access: yes, 2013
An algorithm of particle-in-cell simulations is described and tested to aid further the actual design of simple vircators working on axially symmetric modes. The methods of correction of the numerical solution, have been chosen and jointly tested, allow the stable simulation of the fast nonlinear multiflow dynamics of virtual cathode formation and ...

Enhancing Vircator Efficiency Using Tapered Reflectors With Increasing Interreflector Distance

open access: yesInternational journal of RF and microwave computer-aided engineering
The effectiveness of virtual cathode oscillator (Vircator) applications has been restricted due to the low efficiency in converting the electron beam to microwave. This research introduces the design of an axial Vircator that achieves higher power output
