Low-Voltage Vircator as a Novel THz Source

IEEE Transactions on Electron Devices, 2023
THz wave has various applications in human life, and many researchers are interested in related technologies specially designing reliable THz source. Vacuum electronic devices (VEDs) are high-power solutions that can be used in a range of microwave to ...

Output-Power Enhancement of Vircator Based on Second Virtual Cathode Formed by Wall Charge on a Dielectric Reflector

IEEE Transactions on Electron Devices, 2022
A second virtual cathode (VC2) is experimentally developed for the first time in this vircator study, where an axial vircator is simulated by installing a dielectric reflector (DR), whose position is altered from 6 to 18 cm in steps of 2 cm away from the

Particle-in-Cell Simulation on the Trade-Off in Reflector Hole Diameter and Output Power in Vircator

International Conference on Plasma Science, 2023
Virtual cathode oscillator (Vircator) is the simplest high power microwave source and is known for low electron beam to microwave conversion, but recent simulation and experimental works have demonstrated efficiency higher than 20 % is possible using a ...

Vircator Technologies Comparison and Novel Anode Analysis

Progress in Electromagnetics Research Symposium, 2021
High Power Microwave (HPM) sources are widely used as signal sources in radar, jammer, and Counter Improvised Explosive Devices (CIED). Such devices usually are heavy and bulky, characteristics that are in conflict with the small weight and power (SWaP ...

Prelimenary Investigation on the Explosive Field Emission Model Using Vircator Particle-In-Cell Simulation

International Vacuum Electronics Conference, 2022
Explosive field emission is vital to relativistic vacuum electronics, for it is the only method to generate high energy electron beam. In the theoretical explosive field emission model used in Particle-In-Cell simulation, there are three parameters that ...

Photonic Crystal as a Section of Modulation and Interaction With a Virtual Cathode in Two-Section Vircator

IEEE Transactions on Electron Devices, 2021
We propose and investigate the new scheme of a two-section vircator with a photonic crystal (PC) as a section of modulation and interaction with a virtual cathode (VC).

Vircators and the magnetic field

IEEE Conference Record - Abstracts. PPPS-2001 Pulsed Power Plasma Science 2001. 28th IEEE International Conference on Plasma Science and 13th IEEE International Pulsed Power Conference (Cat. No.01CH37255), 2002
Summary form only given, as follows. It is well known that vircators differ from many other microwave tubes, because they stop oscillating when immersed in an axial magnetic field. This was a bit of mystery, which we have been able to resolve the problem first of all analytically and then more directly by modelling the Texas Tech vircator with the help

Cavity Vircator Amplifier - Priming And Phase Locking Of High Power Vircators

SPIE Proceedings, 1988
Preliminary experimental and theoretical results are reported on priming and phase locking of high power cavity vircators. Experimentally, we examine the selection criteria and performance of rectangular and cylindrical resonant cavity vircators. Theoretically, we conduct phenomenological modeling of a magnetron driven cavity vircator.
