Optimization of Microwave Generation by Coaxial Vircator
IEEE Conference Record - Abstracts. 1999 IEEE International Conference on Plasma Science. 26th IEEE International Conference (Cat. No.99CH36297), 2003Summary form only given. The coaxial virtual cathode oscillator (vircator) developed by Texas Tech University was studied in order to improve the efficiency of microwave generation. The microwave frequency and mode were diagnosed. The results were used to design a microwave reflector that enhances the microwave fields in the vircator area.

Tunable vircators with e-beam premodulation
PPPS-2001 Pulsed Power Plasma Science 2001. 28th IEEE International Conference on Plasma Science and 13th IEEE International Pulsed Power Conference. Digest of Papers (Cat. No.01CH37251), 2002Summary form only given, as follows. Presents recent results of theoretical and experimental studies of HPM production in virtual cathode systems with electron beam premodulation. The phase separation of electron current in these devices is due to strong energy dependence of electron current passage just above the critical current level and develops at

Coaxial vircator source development
IEEE Conference Record - Abstracts. 1996 IEEE International Conference on Plasma Science, 1996Summary form only given. A study of efficiency improvement for a coaxial virtual cathode oscillator is described. The coaxial geometry has many physical parameters that can be changed to alter the performance of the system. The parameters of interest include diode length, anode-cathode gap spacing, and an electron absorbing collection rod.

Efficiency Enhancement of the Axial VIRCATOR
IEEE Transactions on Plasma Science, 2007We present in this paper the particle-in-cell simulation results of a modified axial virtual cathode oscillator having a metallic drum of radius R1 placed coaxially inside the drift tube at a distance D1 from the foil anode. The enlarged parameter space permits control of the current transmitted to the collection plate, the net diode current, and the ...

Pulsewidth Variation of an Axial Vircator
IEEE Transactions on Plasma Science, 2010The KALI-1000 pulse power system has been used to generate single-pulse nanosecond-duration high-power microwaves from an axial virtual cathode oscillator. The typical electron beam parameters were 250 kV, 15 kA, and 100 ns, with a current density of a few hundreds of amperes per square centimeter. The shot-to-shot variation of the microwave pulsewidth

Experiments with an S-band vircator
SPIE Proceedings, 1994The experiments described used a Vircator operating in the frequency range 2.5 - 3.5 MHz and powered by a 10 ohm, 100 ns pulse generator operating at voltages up to 600 kV. The Vircator had a tunable resonant cavity and power was coupled out from one side. A series of experiments were carried out to elucidate various aspects of the Vircator's behavior.

Combining Extreme Values Theory and Surrogate Modelling for the Study of a Vircator
International Conference on Plasma Science, 2020Mainly due to their high computational and experimental costs (prohibitive number of experiments needed to carry on statistical inferences), High Power Electromagnetics (HPEM) are rarely devoted to the assessment of extreme values.
