Investigation of vircator with time-frequency analysis

2009 IEEE International Conference on Plasma Science - Abstracts, 2009
The virtual cathode oscillator (vircator) is a widely investigated device for the generation of very high-power microwaves (HPM) with pulse lengths (≪200ns) limited by diode closure. Because of its structural simplicity and frequency tuneablity, the vircator has become the most readily available HPM sources.

Diode polarity experiments on a coaxial vircator

IEEE Conference Record - Abstracts. 1997 IEEE International Conference on Plasma Science, 1997
Summary form only given, as follows. A study on the interaction dynamics of a positively and negatively pulsed coaxial vircator is being performed at Texas Tech University. MAGIC, a 2.5D particle-in-cell code, is used to simulate the different geometries.

Relativistic vircator with an electromagnetic bandgap medium

2015 IEEE International Conference on Plasma Sciences (ICOPS), 2015
The virtual cathode oscillator (vircator) can be one of the most promising high-power microwave sources due to its conceptual simplicity, high-output power capability, and potential tunability. Microwaves can be generated when the current of an intense relativistic electron beam exceeds the space-charge-limiting current of the structure.

Simulation of a 10.4GHz TM05 vircator

16th International Conference on Infrared and Millimeter Waves, 1991
Using the "MAGIC" code, computer simulation is performed to design a cathode structure which provides a radial distribution of electron beam density matching the field distribution of the TM 05 mode. Thus, very narrow band TM 05 mode microwave radiation can be generated in an open end waveguide.

Vircator Operation at Plasma Assistance

AIP Conference Proceedings, 2002
The influence of plasma on the processes of virtual cathode (VC) formation, high frequency (HF) generation, and plasma ions acceleration were studied. The theoretical consideration of the problem was analytically undertaken in one-dimensional approximation, that has shown the principal ability of low frequency (LF) oscillations of VC potential well and

Simulation and Experimental Research of a Novel Vircator

Chinese Physics Letters, 2008
A new configuration of an axially-extracted vircator with three resonant cavities is put forward and optimized by simulation with the PIC code. The output power of over 1 GW is obtained at around 4.1 GHz in the experiment, in agreement well with the PIC simulation results. The beam to wave power conversion efficiency is more than 6.6%.

The Eeffects of Anode Foil Transmission Ratio on the Performance of Vircator

International Symposium on Antennas, Propagation and EM Theory, 2018
Virtual cathode oscillator (Vircator) is an important high power microwave (HPM) source because of its simple structure and no magnetic field is required to maintain its operation. Cathode and anode are the two most important components in vircator.

Vircator efficiency enhancement at plasma assistance

The 31st IEEE International Conference on Plasma Science, 2004. ICOPS 2004. IEEE Conference Record - Abstracts., 2004
Summary form only given. The experimental researches of generation of microwave radiation produced in a system of a relativistic electron beam (REB) with a supercritical current and external plasma source have been carried out. The pulsed electron accelerator has been put into operation that produces high-current relativistic electron beam with ...

Hybrid Microwave Device Based on the Vircator with Additional Electrodynamic Section

International Vacuum Electronics Conference, 2019
The results of the study of a microwave generator based on a nonrelativistic low-voltage vircator with a non-laminar electron beam and with an additional extended electrodynamics section are presented. An additional extended electrodynamics section based

CST Particle-In-Cell Modeling Of A Tunable Reflex-Triode Vircator

IEEE International Power Modulator and High Voltage Conference, 2018
This study serves to describe three-dimensional particle-in-cell (PIC) simulations of a tunable reflex-triode virtual cathode oscillator (vircator). Experimental data from the compact hard-tube reflex-triode vircator developed at Texas Tech University ...
