Experimental results from a coaxial vircator
International Conference on Plasma Science (papers in summary form only received), 1995Summary form only given. A coaxial vircator system has been developed at the High-Power Microwave Facility at Texas Tech University and the initial testing is complete. This paper details the experimental results for several different configurations of the coaxial vircator.

Vircator with ballistic focusing of an electron beam
Technical Physics, 2004A high-power microwave oscillator (vircator) is built around an ironless induction linac. The feature of this device is ballistic focusing of an electron beam in a diode-type system with a concentric spherical cathode and anode. The possibility of the vircator to generate high-power microwave pulses is demonstrated.

Optimization of the energy efficiency for a coaxial vircator
2009 IEEE Pulsed Power Conference, 2009This paper describes part of the experimental results from an optimization work done on a coaxial vircator. The microwave source is driven by a Marx generator and excludes any type of pulse forming device between the two subsystems. There are two main reasons for not including any pulse forming device.

Experimental results of a 2 GW vircator
The 30th International Conference on Plasma Science, 2003. ICOPS 2003. IEEE Conference Record - Abstracts., 2003Summary form only given, as follows. Summary form only given. Experimental findings on the coaxial virtual cathode oscillator (vircator) at Texas Tech University are reported. Recent modifications to the system include extending the pulse forming line that now provides an applied diode voltage of 600 kV for 70 nanoseconds at 60 kA.

Modeling of a vircator with internal TEM feedback
Technical Physics Letters, 1999The Karat electromagnetic PIC code is used for computer modeling of a vircator with internal TEM feedback proposed by the authors. It is shown that the output power can be effectively controlled by varying the feedback length.

Cavity resonance effect on a coaxial vircator
Digest of Technical Papers. PPC-2003. 14th IEEE International Pulsed Power Conference (IEEE Cat. No.03CH37472), 2004Traditionally, the radiated microwave frequency in a coaxial vircator is considered to be determined primarily by the virtual cathode oscillation frequency and the electron reflection frequency. However, some experiments at TTU show that the interaction between the virtual cathode oscillation and the cavity is a key in determining the microwave ...

Numerical simulation studies of coaxial vircators
12th International Conference on High-Power Particle Beams. BEAMS'98. Proceedings (Cat. No.98EX103), 2002The characteristic frequency and energy conversion efficiency of the coaxial vircator are studied by numerical simulation method. Comparing with planar vircator, the coaxial vircator generates much narrow bandwidth and higher center frequency. The simulation results also evince that by adjusting d can tune the output microwave frequency in about two ...
