Life cycle assessment of Virginia mallow production with different fertilisation options

Journal of Cleaner Production, 2018
Abstract Lignocellulosic crops can be a significant source of feedstock for the chemical industry. They can be grown on poorer soils, but fertilisation should be applied to achieve a considerable yield. The aim of the study was to determine the environmental impact of the production of Virginia mallow (Sida hermaphrodita Rusby L.) biomass fertilised ...

A new approach for evaluating biochar quality from Virginia Mallow biomass thermal processing

Journal of Cleaner Production, 2019
Abstract The main problem and also challenge was to find a satisfactory effective tool for real-time control the torrefaction/pyrolysis process of biomass and to evaluate (also in real-time conditions) biochar quality. This paper presents results from investigation on a new method for both evaluating biochar quality and control biomass thermal ...

Progress in the production of biogas from Virginia mallow after alkaline-heat pretreatment

Biomass and Bioenergy, 2019
Abstract This study aimed to analyze the coupled effect of electromagnetic microwave radiation and sodium hydroxide on the structure of a lignocellulosic complex of Virginia mallow and to determine the susceptibility of the pretreated substrate to anaerobic degradation.

Evaluation of yeast-like fungi to protect Virginia mallow (Sida hermaphrodita) against Sclerotinia sclerotiorum

Canadian Journal of Plant Science, 2016
Virginia mallow is a plant from the central and eastern states of North America. A large amount of high quality biomass obtained from V. mallow led to interest in this plant for bioenergy purposes. Unfortunately, high incidence of white rot disease caused by Sclerotinia sclerotiorum destroyed plantations of this plant.

The assessment of Virginia mallow ( Sida hermaphrodita Rusby) and cup plant ( Silphium perfoliatum L.) productivity, physico–mechanical properties and energy expenses

Energy, 2015
Abstract Field and laboratory trials of the energy crop species Virginia mallow ( Sida hermaphrodita L. Rusby) and cup plant ( Silphium perfoliatum L.) were conducted to evaluate the effects of liming and nitrogen application on biomass and energy productivity and the suitability of the biomass for biofuel production.
