Pinched Magnetic Fields in the High-mass Protocluster W3 IRS5
We present polarization maps of dust emission at 340 GHz in the luminous high-mass protocluster W3 IRS5, observed with the Submillimeter Array. The projected magnetic fields appear fairly organized, with a pinched morphology in the northern part and a ...

Context. Several theoretical and observational studies have shown that new waves of triggered star formation can be induced by the feedback from newly formed massive protostars, due to the expansion of H II regions. Aims.

Virial treatment of the speed of sound in cold, dense atmospheres and application to Titan
The speed of sound in a gas can be used to identify its composition, as has been done on the Earth. We show that, unlike in terrestrial applications, the third virial coefficient cannot be neglected in cold and dense atmospheres.

Use of the Padé approximants for calculating the second virial coefficient
The expansions in reduced temperature, occurring in relations for the second virial coefficient of the power-law potentials were expressed by the Pade approximant.

The Shape and Mass of the Galactic Dark Matter Halo from the Axisymmetric Jeans Model
We explore the density profile, shape, and virial mass of the Milky Way’s dark matter halo, using K giants (KGs) from the Large Sky Area Multi-Object Fiber Spectroscopic Telescope and Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS)/SEGUE as well as blue horizontal ...

Satellite galaxies can be used to indicate the dynamic mass of galaxy groups and clusters. In this study, we apply the axisymmetric Jeans Anisotropic Multi-Gaussian Expansion ( JAM ) modeling to satellite galaxies in 28 galaxy clusters selected from the ...

The Virial Theorem and Covalent Bonding
A long-held view of the origin of covalent binding is based on the notion that electrostatic forces determine the stability of a system of charged particles and that, therefore, potential energy changes drive the stabilization of molecules.

An unconventional apparatus, described in detail, determines, through a measured small volume increment, the temperature dependence of the second virial coefficient of a vapour without the necessity for isothermal expansion.

Exact Quantum Virial Expansion for the Optical Response of Doped Two-Dimensional Semiconductors
We present a quantum virial expansion for the optical response of a doped two-dimensional semiconductor. As we show, this constitutes a perturbatively exact theory in the high-temperature or low-doping regime, where the electrons\u27 thermal wavelength ...
