The dual lifestyle of genome‐integrating virophages in protists
Annals of the New York Academy of Sciences, 2019AbstractDNA viruses with efficient host genome integration capability were unknown in eukaryotes until recently. The discovery of virophages, satellite‐like DNA viruses that depend on lytic giant viruses that infect protists, revealed a genetically diverse group of viruses with high genome mobility.

Microalga–virus–virophage coculture reveals co-infection of multi-virophages with a giant virus
Archives of VirologyVirophages parasitize the replication of co-infecting giant viruses within eukaryotic cells, forming tripartite cell-virus-virophage (CVv) systems. Tripartite interactions are well-documented in protozoa, yet comparable systems in algae remain largely unexplored at the experimental level. Here, we report an experimentally validated CVv system involving

Virophages to viromes: a report from the frontier of viral oceanography
Current Opinion in Virology, 2011The investigation of marine viruses has advanced our understanding of ecology, evolution, microbiology, oceanography and virology. Significant findings discussed in this review include the discovery of giant viruses that have genome sizes and metabolic capabilities that distort the line between virus and cell, viruses that participate in photosynthesis

Abstract Giant viruses can control their eukaryotic host populations, shaping the ecology and evolution of aquatic microbial communities. Understanding the impact of the viruses’ own parasites, the virophages, on their control of microbial communities remains a challenge.

[Prediction of Promoter Motifs in Virophages].
Bing du xue bao = Chinese journal of virology, 2015Virophages have crucial roles in ecosystems and are the transport vectors of genetic materials. To shed light on regulation and control mechanisms in virophage--host systems as well as evolution between virophages and their hosts, the promoter motifs of virophages were predicted on the upstream regions of start codons using an analytical tool for ...
