Virtual cathode oscillator with elliptical resonator

2017 Eighteenth International Vacuum Electronics Conference (IVEC), 2017
We have proposed the new scheme of relativistic vircator system for generation of high-power microwave radiation with elliptical resonator as the interaction space and have carried out its numerical study. The effect of the resonator parameters on the interaction of electron beam with the electrodynamic structure has been discovered.

A Virtual Cathode Oscillator with Double Cavities

2007 IEEE Pulsed Power Plasma Science Conference, 2007
The paper describes numerical and experimental studies of a virtual cathode oscillator (vircator) with double rectangular cavities coupled by a rectangular window. In this vircator, the virtual cathode was formed in the second cavity and the microwave generated by virtual cathode oscillation was fed back partially to the first cavity to modulate the e ...

Oscillations of an electron stream with a virtual cathode

Soviet Physics Journal, 1987
The results of an investigation of the oscillations of a virtual cathode and the hysteresis of the state for a one-dimensional electron stream in a flat drift space are given. It is shown that in the case of a given mean space charge density and a given injection current different oscillatory regimes can exist in a stream with a virtual cathode.

Autoacceleration via Virtual Cathode Oscillation

IEEE Transactions on Nuclear Science, 1979
Injection of monoenergetic electron beams with uniform number density into an evacuated, straight-walled, equipotential cylindrical drift tubes has been modeled. An oscillating virtual cathode is produced by having the injected current exceed the space-charge limiting current of the drift tube.

Leaked Electrons from Virtual Cathode Oscillation

Japanese Journal of Applied Physics, 2001
We investigate the properties of leaked electrons from virtual cathode oscillation. It is found from a simulation that most leakage occurs from the radial edge of the beam, so that the leaked beam forms an annular beam. Axial bunching was also observed.

Efficiency enhancement of a coaxial virtual cathode oscillator

IEEE Transactions on Plasma Science, 1999
The microwave field intensity around the virtual cathode oscillator was enhanced by using a microwave reflector in the output waveguide. The experimental results show that the microwave output power strongly depends on the position and geometry of the microwave reflector.

Pulse-powered virtual cathode oscillator

IEEE Transactions on Dielectrics and Electrical Insulation, 2011
The paper deals with the conception of parts numerically modelled for a pulse powered virtual cathode oscillator. More concretely, this study presents the design of the anode and cathode of the oscillator and analyzes experiments carried out to verify numerical results related to the pulse powered generator.

Mechanism of microwave generation by virtual cathode oscillation

Physics of Plasmas, 1995
A simple model is developed to describe the virtual cathode oscillation. With this model, it is found that the frequency dependence of the microwave power gain is determined by the phase relation between the oscillating electric field and the modulated electron beam current.

Efficiency and stability enhancement of a virtual cathode oscillator

Chinese Physics B, 2014
A virtual cathode oscillator (VCO) with a resonant cavity is presented and investigated numerically and theoretically, and its efficiency and stability are enhanced. An equivalent circuit method is introduced to analyze the resonant cavity composed of anode foil and feedback annulus, and a theoretical expression for the fundamental mode frequency of ...

Experimental and numerical studies of virtual cathode oscillator

Digest of Technical Papers. PPC-2003. 14th IEEE International Pulsed Power Conference (IEEE Cat. No.03CH37472), 2004
A new configuration of virtual cathode oscillator (vircator) has been studied for high-power microwave generation. In this vircator configuration, a resonant cavity is used to enhance the beam-field interaction in order to improve the microwave efficiency.
