Isoparametric Virtual Element Methods

open access: yes
We present two approaches to constructing isoparametric Virtual Element Methods of arbitrary order for linear elliptic partial differential equations on general two-dimensional domains. The first method approximates the variational problem transformed onto a computational reference domain.

Polyhedral mesh quality indicator for the Virtual Element Method

open access: yesComputers & Mathematics with Applications, 2022
We present the design of a mesh quality indicator that can predict the behavior of the Virtual Element Method (VEM) on a given mesh family or finite sequence of polyhedral meshes (dataset). The mesh quality indicator is designed to measure the violation of the mesh regularity assumptions that are normally considered in the convergence analysis.

Normal‐Appearing White Matter Injury Mediates Chronic Deep Venous Hypoxia and Disease Progression in Multiple Sclerosis

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective To explore how cerebral hypoxia and Normal‐Appearing White Matter (NAWM) integrity affect MS lesion burden and clinical course. Methods Seventy‐nine MS patients, including 13 clinically isolated syndrome (CIS) patients and 66 relapsing–remitting multiple sclerosis (RRMS) patients, and 44 healthy controls (HCs) were recruited from ...

A simple, effective and high-precision boundary meshfree method for solving 2D anisotropic heat conduction problems with complex boundaries

open access: yesScientific Reports
A simple, effective and high-precision boundary meshfree method called virtual boundary meshfree Galerkin method (VBMGM) is used to tackle 2D anisotropic heat conduction problems with complex boundaries. Temperature and heat flux are expressed by virtual

Robust direction‐of‐arrival estimation approach using beamspace‐based deep neural networks with array imperfections and element failure

open access: yesIET Radar, Sonar & Navigation, 2022
Direction‐of‐arrival (DOA) estimation is a fundamental functionality of sensor array systems. Previous methods only consider element failure or array imperfections. In fact, the co‐existence of element failure and array imperfections is more in line with

Virtual Element Method for Piezoelasticity

open access: yesInternational Journal for Numerical Methods in Engineering
ABSTRACT This paper presents a Virtual Element Method (VEM) for the simulation of 2D and 3D piezoelectric problems. Piezoelectric materials exhibit strong multiphysics coupling behavior and have the ability to convert mechanical energy into electrical energy.

Comparing the Effect of Semi‐Immersive Virtual Reality, Computerized Cognitive Training, and Traditional Rehabilitation on Cognitive Function in Multiple Sclerosis: A Randomized Clinical Trial

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Cognitive impairment is a common non‐motor symptom in Multiple Sclerosis (MS), negatively affecting autonomy and Quality of Life (QoL). Innovative rehabilitation strategies, such as semi‐immersive virtual reality (VR) and computerized cognitive training (CCT), may offer advantages over traditional cognitive rehabilitation (TCR ...
