This paper aims to theorise how virtual reality (VR) can contribute to the development of contextual architecture. We start by considering how an architectural context may translate into a virtual domain, introducing preliminary definitions of what a ...

Navigation in REVERIE's virtual environments [PDF]
This work presents a novel navigation system for social collaborative virtual environments populated with multiple characters. The navigation system ensures collision free movement of avatars and agents. It supports direct user manipulation, automated path planning, positioning to get seated, and follow-me behaviour for groups.

Towards an “Internet of Food”: Food Ontologies for the Internet of Things
Automated food and drink recognition methods connect to cloud-based lookup databases (e.g., food item barcodes, previously identified food images, or previously classified NIR (Near Infrared) spectra of food and drink items databases) to match and ...

From presence to consciousness through virtual reality
Immersive virtual environments can break the deep, everyday connection between where our senses tell us we are and where we are actually located and whom we are with. The concept of 'presence' refers to the phenomenon of behaving and feeling as if we are

This article proposes a convergent adaptive observer for a damped wave PDE and an infinite‐dimensional ODE coupled in cascade using sampled‐in‐space ODE state measurements. The proposed observer estimates the distributed states of the PDE and ODE along with unknown PDE parameters and spatial input.

The effects of fidelity on navigation in virtual environments [PDF]
Virtual environments (VEs) offer huge potential for a wide range of applications including the transfer of spatial knowledge from virtual spaces to real world places; beneficial in situations where it would be impractical, too expensive or dangerous, to ...

A unified research data management framework for heterogeneous materials data is presented. The system integrates multimodal datasets using ontologies and knowledge graphs, enabling interoperability and FAIR (findable, accessible, interoperable, reusable) data principles. By linking data across scales and workflows, it supports reproducible, Artifitial
