Virtual inertia emulating in power electronic–based power systems

open access: yes, 2021
The concept of virtual inertia is adopted from the moment of inertia of synchronous generator (SG) rotating masses. The conventional power systems profit from the inertial function of numerous existing SGs to solve or improve the frequency challenges, e ...

Dynamic Virtual Inertia and Damping Control for Zero-Inertia Grids

open access: yesCoRR
In this paper virtual synchronous generation (VSG) approach is investigated in application to low- and zero-inertia grids operated by grid-forming (GFM) inverters. The key idea here is to introduce dynamic inertia and damping constants in order to keep power gird stable during different types of faults, islanding or large power balance oscillations. In

Stability Improvement of Renewable Energy Resource Based Microgrid via Virtual Inertia Control

open access: yes, 2023
In an isolated microgrid, in the absence of a rotating synchronous machine, a virtual synchronous generator behaves as a rotating synchronous machine within a converter-based system and mitigates instability issues.

Grid Inertia and Damping Support Enabled by Proposed Virtual Inductance Control for Grid-Forming Virtual Synchronous Generator [PDF]

open access: yes, 2023
Inertia and damping are the core index of the estimation of power system stability. Existing analysis to the support of inertia and damping are focused on the improvement of system stability as well as parameters tuning of virtual inertia and virtual ...

An adaptative control strategy for interfacing converter of hybrid microgrid based on improved virtual synchronous generator

open access: yesIET Renewable Power Generation, 2022
Inertial support for hybrid AC/DC microgrid systems is provided by the virtual synchronous generator (VSG). However, the fast performance of the system is neglected while enhancing the stability of the system. To address this problem, an adaptive virtual

Virtual inertia analysis of photovoltaic energy storage systems based on reduced-order model

open access: yesFrontiers in Energy Research, 2023
The problem of non-ideal inertia of the photovoltaic energy storage system (PVESS) may occur due to unreasonable voltage control parameters. In response to this issue, this paper establishes an equivalent reduced-order model (EROM) for PVESS.

A Virtual Inertia Control Strategy for DC Microgrids Analogized With Virtual Synchronous Machines [PDF]

open access: yesIEEE Transactions on Industrial Electronics, 2017
In a DC microgrid (DC-MG), the dc bus voltage is vulnerable to power fluctuation derived from the intermittent distributed energy or local loads variation. In this paper, a virtual inertia control strategy for DC-MG through bidirectional grid-connected converters (BGCs) analogized with virtual synchronous machine (VSM) is proposed to enhance the ...

Enhanced Virtual Inertia Controller for Microgrid Applications

open access: yes, 2023
Unlike Synchronous Generators (SGs), Virtual Synchronous Generators (VSGs) inertia is not fixed once it is manufactured and only has an upper limit defined by its energy storage components. In this paper, a novel Enhanced Virtual Inertia Controller (EVIC)

Inertia estimation of new energy power system with virtual inertia response of wind power

open access: yes电力工程技术, 2023
The accurate estimation of inertia is the premise of analyzing the security and stability of the system frequency, but the existing methods can not quantitatively evaluate the effect of virtual inertia on the equivalent inertia of the power system.

Experimental Characterization of Mycelium‐Based Composites Under Multiple Loading Conditions

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study examines the mechanical response of mycelium‐based composites under compression, shear, and tension using mechanical testing and imaging methods. The comparison between unpressed and hot‐pressed specimens shows that hot pressing is associated with higher compression and shear stiffnesses.
