The Virtual Library: Virtually a Reality?

2009 Second International Conference on Computer and Electrical Engineering, 2009
The virtual library implies no sense of physical location, whether for the end user or for the source. The user can access the information from anywhere and the information can be held anywhere. There is a sense of randomness in and its irrelevant to the user where the information is held.

Library treasures in a virtual world

2013 IEEE 4th International Conference on Cognitive Infocommunications (CogInfoCom), 2013
In this paper, we present a three-dimensional virtual system which visualizes some interesting rooms of the University of Debrecen and makes the most cherished and carefully guarded treasures of the Collection of Rare and Early Printed Books of the University and National Library of the University of Debrecen virtually available. Our system is based on

Virtual Screening of Virtual Libraries

2003
Virtual screening of virtual libraries (VSVL) is a rapidly changing area of research. Great efforts are being made to produce better algorithms, selection methods and infrastructure. Yet, the number of successful examples in the literature is not impressive, although the quality of work certainly is high. Why is this?

Mixed Library — Bridging Real and Virtual Libraries

2017
New technologies, especially mixed reality devices, such as Microsoft HoloLens, are blurring the difference between the real and virtual worlds. These developments provide an exciting opportunity to re-define virtual library while maintaining utility and effectiveness.

A digital library for a virtual organization

Proceedings of the Thirty-First Hawaii International Conference on System Sciences, 2002

Development of the NIST Virtual Library

IEEE Internet Computing, 1997
The paper considers how the National Institute of Standards and Technology developed its virtual library as an intranet. The Web-based user interface lets NIST researchers access internal databases, paid subscription services, and CD-ROM-based sources. It also accommodates restricted public access to general library resources.
