Elastic Network Virtualization
IEEE INFOCOM 2020 - IEEE Conference on Computer Communications, 2020Network virtualization allows multiple tenant networks to coexist on a shared infrastructure. Core to its realization is the embedding of virtual networks onto the underlying substrate. Existing approaches are not suitable for cloud environments as they lack a fundamental requirement: elasticity.

Virtual network mapping algorithm with robustness in network virtualization
2012 3rd IEEE International Conference on Network Infrastructure and Digital Content, 2012As a key technology for realizing future networks (FNs), network virtualization has attracted worldwide attention. However, how to construct a suitable virtual network (VN) requires effective techniques for VN mapping. In this paper, we present a new VN mapping algorithm that can guarantee the network robustness.

2013 Second European Workshop on Software Defined Networks, 2013
Universal access to Internet is crucial. Several initiatives have recently emerged to enable wider access to the Internet. Public Access WiFi Service (PAWS) enables free Internet access to all and is based on Lowest Cost Denominator Networking (LCDNet) -- a set of network techniques that enable users to share their home broadband network with the ...

A survey of network virtualization
Computer Networks, 2010Due to the existence of multiple stakeholders with conflicting goals and policies, alterations to the existing Internet architecture are now limited to simple incremental updates; deployment of any new, radically different technology is next to impossible.

Networked virtual environments
Proceedings of the 1992 symposium on Interactive 3D graphics - SI3D '92, 1992The Virtual Environment Realtime Network (VERN) is an object oriented testbed for the interconnection of environments over a network of graphical workstations. VERN is based on extensions to the networking technology of the DARPA sponsored SIMNET combined combat training system and the Distributed Interactive Simulation protocol being developed as a ...

VIRCONEL: A Network Virtualizer
2011 IEEE 19th Annual International Symposium on Modelling, Analysis, and Simulation of Computer and Telecommunication Systems, 2011In this paper we present VIRCONEL, a new, open source (LGPL) tool that we developed to run experiments and do research in networked ICT environments built from real software. VIRCONEL features an integrated graphical user interface to model, deploy, launch, runtime-control and measure a target system with an arbitrary network topology. Based on Open VZ,

Over a decade ago, virtual networking started with a simple bridging of VM's virtual network adapter to host's physical network adapter in VMware's Workstation product. With VMware's vSphere 4 product, virtual networking has evolved to a distributed virtual networking infrastructure with pluggable packet switching and filtering modules, under the ...
