The concept of strong and weak virtual reality [PDF]

open access: yesMinds and Machines, 16 (2), 201-219 (2006), 2003
We approach the virtual reality phenomenon by studying its relationship to set theory, and we investigate the case where this is done using the wellfoundedness property of sets. Our hypothesis is that non-wellfounded sets (hypersets) give rise to a different quality of virtual reality than do familiar wellfounded sets.

Immercity: a curation content application in Virtual and Augmented reality [PDF]

open access: yes10th International Conference, VAMR 2018, Held as Part of HCI International 2018, II (2), Springer, 2018, Virtual, Augmented and Mixed Reality: Applications in Health, Cultural Heritage, and Industry, 978-3-319-91583-8. https://link.springer.com/book/10.1007/978-3-319-91584-5, 2018
When working with emergent and appealing technologies as Virtual Reality, Mixed Reality and Augmented Reality, the issue of definitions appear very often. Indeed, our experience with various publics allows us to notice that technology definitions pose ambiguity and representation problems for informed as well as novice users.

The photon: A virtual reality [PDF]

open access: yesSPIE Proceedings, 2005
It has been observed that every photon is, in a sense, virtual - being emitted and then sooner or later absorbed. As the motif of a quantum radiation state, the photon shares these characteristics of any virtual state: that it is not directly observable;

The reality of virtual reality

open access: yesFrontiers in Psychology, 2023
Virtual reality (VR) has become a popular tool for investigating human behavior and brain functions. Nevertheless, it is unclear whether VR constitutes an actual form of reality or is more like an advanced simulation. Determining the nature of VR has been mostly achieved by self-reported presence measurements, defined as the feeling of being submerged ...

An Optimized Convolutional Neural Network for the 3D Point-Cloud Compression

open access: yesSensors, 2023
Due to the tremendous volume taken by the 3D point-cloud models, knowing how to achieve the balance between a high compression ratio, a low distortion rate, and computing cost in point-cloud compression is a significant issue in the field of virtual ...
