An Approach to Modeling and Developing Virtual Sensors Used in the Simulation of Autonomous Vehicles

open access: yesSensors
A virtual model enables the study of reality in a virtual environment using a theoretical model, which is a digital image of a real model. The complexity of the virtual model must correspond to the reality of the evaluated system, becoming as complex as ...

Semantic Access to Sensor Observations through Web APIs [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Sensor networks are often deployed with the purpose of providing data to large-scale information management and GIS systems, or to collect measurements for specific scientific experiments. The benefits of such use are clear and widely accepted. The reuse

Virtual sensor design [PDF]

open access: yesSPIE Proceedings, 2004
We present a virtual digital camera sensor, whose aim is to simulate a real (physical) image capturing sensor. To accomplish this task, the virtual sensor operates in two steps. First, it accepts a physical description of agiven scene and simulates the entire process of photon sensing and charge generation in the sensor device.

An isoform of 14‐3‐3 protein regulates transbilayer lipid movement at the plasma membrane

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Loss of 14‐3‐3ζ in CHO cells confers resistance to exogenous phosphatidylserine (PS) and impairs endocytosis‐independent inward flip‐flop of fluorescent PS at the plasma membrane. RNAi‐mediated knockdown reproduces this defect, while no additive effect is seen in ATP11C‐deficient cells.

Virtual Sensors for Designing Irrigation Controllers in Greenhouses

open access: yesSensors, 2012
Monitoring the greenhouse transpiration for control purposes is currently a difficult task. The absence of affordable sensors that provide continuous transpiration measurements motivates the use of estimators.

Lightweight Module Isolation for Sensor Nodes [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
There is an increasing tendency in sensor networks (and related networked embedded systems) to push more complexity and ‘intelligence’ into end-nodes. This in turn leads to a growing need to support isolation between the software modules in a node.

Pathways and pitfalls: a qualitative study of student experiences in biomedical science education

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Biomedical science students from underrepresented backgrounds face barriers including financial strain, disrupted laboratory access and cultural exclusion. Peer networks provide vital support when institutional systems are difficult to navigate. To create inclusive learning environments and achieve academic success, educators should blend active, hands‐
