A virtual space vector modulation technique reducing both magnitude and third-order harmonic component of the common-mode voltage (CMV) in a two-level voltage-source inverter (VSI) is proposed in this paper. The presented method employs a set of virtual space vectors constructed from original stationary space vectors to conduct modulation.

Neutral-point (NP) voltage imbalance is an inherent problem of three-level neutral-point clamped (NPC) converter. To solve this problem, an improved virtual space vector pulse width modulation (VSVPWM) is proposed in this paper. A new repartitioning of the space vector sectors is proposed for three-level NPC converter by considering the amplitude ...

This letter presents a new modulation approach for the complete control of the neutral-point voltage in the three-level three-phase neutral-point-clamped voltage source inverter. The new modulation approach, based on the virtual space vector concept, guarantees the balancing of the neutral-point voltage for any load (linear or nonlinear) over the full ...

In the paper by Xiang et al. ( IEEE Trans. Power Electron ., vol. 33, no. 6, pp. 5452–5464, Jun. 2018), the authors proposed an improved virtual space vector modulation for three-level neutral-point-clamped converter. However, some problems are worth being discussed about vector synthesis of the improved virtual space vector modulation.

This paper explore the odevity coordinate to conduct virtual space vector modulation for the neutral point clamped inverter. It deduced the mathematical expressions of the duty ratio of six sectors and presented a unified space vector sequence. This modulation simplifies the calculation and eliminates the difference between sectors of virtual space ...

Virtual space vector pulse-width modulation (VSV-PWM) is commonly used in neutral point clamped (NPC) three-level (3-L) inverters due to its intrinsic neutral point potential balancing feature. However, VSV-PWM brings higher switching loss than the traditional space-vector PWM (SV-PWM) under the same current harmonic content.

An Active Virtual Space Vector Modulation Scheme for Three‐Level Neutral‐Point‐Clamped Converters
IEEJ Transactions on Electrical and Electronic EngineeringThe performance of neutral‐point‐clamped (NPC) converters is subject to the regulation of neutral point balance. In the literature, researchers have addressed two main modulation methods: the active space vector PWM (SVPWM) technique and the virtual SVPWM (VSVPWM) method.
