Virtual synchronous generators
2008 IEEE Power and Energy Society General Meeting - Conversion and Delivery of Electrical Energy in the 21st Century, 2008In electricity grids the frequency of the voltage is stabilized by a combination of the rotational inertia (rotating mass) of synchronous power generators in the grid and a control algorithm acting on the rotational speed of a number of major synchronous power generators.

Review on virtual synchronous generator technologies
IET Conference Proceedings, 2021With the increased penetration of renewable generation such as photovoltaics and wind turbines, the equivalent inertia and equivalent damping of the power system gradually decrease, which will result in stability problems becoming more and more serious.

Virtual synchronous generator: An element of future grids
2010 IEEE PES Innovative Smart Grid Technologies Conference Europe (ISGT Europe), 2010The future power system integrated a large share of distributed generation (DG) may causes a reduction of the system rotational inertia, resulting in high frequency variations with any disturbances. An additional rotational inertia will be provided to the system if many DG units combined with relative small storage systems operate like virtual ...

Virtual synchronous generators classification and common trends
IECON 2016 - 42nd Annual Conference of the IEEE Industrial Electronics Society, 2016With the increasing penetration of photovoltaic systems, conventional plants, which are based on synchronous machines, will be displaced. Inverter based photovoltaic systems behavior is quite different from traditional generators in both electrical and mechanical dynamics, and grid stability can be negatively affected.

Generalized synchronization of coupled virtual cathode generators
Bulletin of the Russian Academy of Sciences: Physics, 2014A detailed analysis is performed of generalized synchronization in unidirectionally coupled virtual cathode generators, chain simulated by a 1D PIC electron flow. Calculations of the Lyapunov exponent spectrum for PIC systems are used to diagnose synchronous behavior.

Virtual synchronous generator (VSG) has been proposed to mimic the synchronous generator in terms of voltage establishment and provision of virtual inertia from electric energy storage. It thus facilitates increased power electronics connected renewable penetration while maintaining the system stability.

Fuzzy virtual inertia control for virtual synchronous generator
2016 35th Chinese Control Conference (CCC), 2016The virtual synchronous generator (VSG) control scheme regulates the inverter as a synchronous generator (SG). As the SG plays an important role in the conventional grid by supporting system stability, the VSG can act the same role in a micro-grid.

Virtual impedance design of virtual synchronous generation in microgrid
2014 International Power Electronics and Application Conference and Exposition, 2014The adoption of virtual synchronous generation (VSG) control can maintain the stability of voltage and frequency in power electronic interfaced mircogrid. In this paper virtual impedance is added to the VSG control strategy in order to improve the system control performance in resistive-inductive line impedance, the influence of virtual impedance on ...

Seamless transfer of virtual synchronous generator using virtual synchronizing torque controller
International Journal of Circuit Theory and ApplicationsAbstractInverter‐dependent renewable energy sources are being integrated into the grid, raising several stability‐related difficulties. This is because these renewable sources have less inertia than synchronous generators. Since the power grid's overall inertia has improved, the introduction of virtual synchronous generators (VSG) has gained much ...
