Ebolaviruses are pathogenic agents associated with a severe, potentially fatal, systemic disease in man and great apes. Four species of ebolaviruses have been identified in west or equatorial Africa. Once the more virulent forms enter the human population, transmission occurs primarily through contact with infected body fluids and can result in major ...

Summary We propose a new concept suggesting that viruses may be responsible for certain diseases, but that the presence of the infectious agent is not required for the expression of the pathological syndrome. Results from our laboratory are presented concerning paramyxo- and myxovirus infections (measles, canine distemper and influenza viruses) and ...

Bovine Virus Diarrhoea/Mucosal Disease Virus and Border Disease
Research in Veterinary Science, 1973Sera from a flock of sheep involved in a Border disease (BD) transmission experiment were examined for neutralising antibodies to bovine virus diarrhoea/mucosal disease (BVD/MD) virus. Antibodies were detected in all sheep inoculated with material from a confirmed case of BD.

Publisher Summary Marek's disease (MD)—a malignant lymphomatosis in chickens—is caused by Marek's disease virus (MDV) of the family Herpesviridae. This chapter reviews recent advances in MD research, especially in the field of molecular biology. Various antigens present in MDV virions, MDV-infected cells, or MD lymphoma cells have been suspected as ...

Lymphocystis is a common chronic disease of several of the higher order of salt and freshwater fishes. Characteristic benign papilloma-like lesions usually develop on the surface and may occur on the internal organs and tissues in rare cases. The disease can be transmitted experimentally by exposure to water containing virus, and by feeding or ...
