Refining a giant virus lineage: a novel order unifying Mamonoviridae and “Manesviridae,” unveiled by the discovery of furtivovirus

open access: yesJournal of Virology
The evolutionary origins and taxonomic framework of giant viruses related to the family Mamonoviridae and its relative group, including clandestinovirus, remain unclassified due to gaps in genome size and host range between these two groups.

PANoptosis in the pathogenesis of myelodysplastic syndromes

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
PANoptosis, a combination of three types of programmed cell death, is mediated by a large protein complex called a PANoptosome. In healthy bone marrow hematopoietic cells, PANoptosis is restricted by inhibitory signaling. In MDS, bone marrow cells become sensitive to the PANoptotic stimuli due to the aberrant inactivation of inhibitory signaling or ...

Genetic recombination and pathogenicity assessment of porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome virus 2 strains in China

open access: yesFrontiers in Veterinary Science
Porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome virus type 2 (PRRSV-2) has been endemic in China for more than three decades; however, comprehensive epidemiological investigations under field conditions remain limited in recent years.

Somatostatin receptor 4 (SSTR4) is a tumor suppressor in cutaneous and head & neck squamous cell carcinomas

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study identifies somatostatin receptor 4 (Sstr4) as a critical tumor suppressor against skin and head/neck cancers (HNSCC, cSCC, and BCC). The loss of Sstr4 removes a check on cell growth, causing hyperactivation of the MAPK‐ERK signaling pathway (↑).

Isolation, identification and pathogenicity analysis of BCoV epidemic strains in Xinjiang

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology
Bovine coronavirus (BCoV) causes diarrhea in calves, winter dysentery in adult cattle, and respiratory diseases, posing a significant threat to the cattle industry.

ADP‐ribosylation: An emerging regulator of the epigenome

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
ADP‐ribosylation has emerged as a dynamic epigenetic signaling mechanism that modifies histones and chromatin‐associated proteins. Through coordinated PARylation and MARylation, it integrates with other histone modifications to regulate chromatin structure, transcription factor activity, and gene expression, influencing genome function and disease ...

Partial FAK suppression promotes tumor growth, an effect reversed by macrophage p110δ PI3K inactivation

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Partial inhibition of focal adhesion kinase (FAK) can paradoxically promote tumor growth, rather than simply producing a weaker antitumor effect than that observed with strong FAK suppression. In breast cancer and melanoma models, targeting p110δ PI3K, particularly in macrophages, counteracted these tumor‐promoting effects, highlighting the importance ...

Protein synthesis directed by cowpea mosaic virus RNAs [PDF]

open access: yes, 1979
The study described here concernes the proteins that are synthesized under direction of CPMV-RNAs.In chapter III it is described that sufficient radioactive labelling of proteins was achieved when 35 S as sulphate was administered to intact Vigna plants,

Activation of the beta interferon promoter by paramyxoviruses in the absence of virus protein synthesis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Conflicting reports exist regarding the requirement for virus replication in interferon (IFN) induction by paramyxoviruses. Our previous work has demonstrated that pathogen-associated molecular patterns capable of activating the IFN-induction cascade are

Mechanisms and therapeutic opportunities of the ribotoxic stress response in cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Cancer cells' high translational demand creates opportunities to therapeutically target ribosome function. Ribosome stalling and collisions activate ZAKα and the ribotoxic stress response (RSR), which can trigger rapid, p53‐independent apoptosis in cancer.
