Viral detection and identification in 20 min by rapid single-particle fluorescence in-situ hybridization of viral RNA

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2021
The increasing risk from viral outbreaks such as the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic exacerbates the need for rapid, affordable and sensitive methods for virus detection, identification and quantification; however, existing methods for detecting virus ...

Chimeric diphtheria toxin–CCL8 cytotoxic peptide for breast cancer management

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
DTCCL8 is a recombinant fusion toxin that targets cancer cells expressing chemokine receptors. By combining diphtheria toxin with CCL8, DTCCL8 binds to multiple receptors on tumor cells and induces selective cytotoxicity. This strategy enables receptor‐mediated targeting of cancer and may support the development of chemokine‐guided therapeutics ...

Quantification and a Molecular Dynamics Study of Viral Membrane Lipids through Plasmon Coupling Microscopy [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Phosphatidylserine (PS) and monosialotetrahexosylganglioside (G_M1) are examples of two host-derived lipids in the membrane of enveloped virus particles that are known to contribute to virus attachment, uptake, and ultimately dissemination.

Differential in vitro infection of neural cells by astroviruses [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Encephalitis remains a diagnostic conundrum in humans as over 50% of cases are managed without the identification of an etiology. Astroviruses have been detected from the central nervous system of mammals in association with disease, suggesting that this

Raphin‐1 mediates the survival and sensitivity to radiation of pediatric‐type diffuse high‐grade glioma via phosphorylated eukaryotic initiation factor 2α‐dependent and ‐independent processes

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Raphin‐1 reduces the survival of PED‐DHGG cells and enhances their radiation sensitivity through both PeIF2α‐dependent and PeIF2α‐independent mechanisms. Raphin‐1 sustains elevated levels of PeIF2α, contributing to its PeIF2α‐dependent effects. Additionally, raphin‐1 interacts with CReP to mediate a separate radiosensitizing pathway that operates ...

An in-house real-time polymerase chain reaction: standardisation and comparison with the Cobas Amplicor HBV monitor and Cobas AmpliPrep/Cobas TaqMan HBV tests for the quantification of hepatitis B virus DNA

open access: yesMemorias do Instituto Oswaldo Cruz, 2016
This study aimed to standardise an in-house real-time polymerase chain reaction (rtPCR) to allow quantification of hepatitis B virus (HBV) DNA in serum or plasma samples, and to compare this method with two commercial assays, the Cobas Amplicor HBV ...

One-Step Reverse-Transcription Digital PCR for Reliable Quantification of Different Pepino Mosaic Virus Genotypes

open access: yesPlants, 2020
In recent years, pepino mosaic virus (PepMV) has rapidly evolved from an emerging virus to an endemic pathogen, as it causes significant loses to tomato crops worldwide.

Human papillomavirus E2 regulates SRSF3 (SRp20) to promote capsid protein expression in infected differentiated keratinocytes [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
The human papillomavirus (HPV) life cycle is tightly linked to differentiation of the infected epithelial cell suggesting a sophisticated interplay between host cell metabolism and virus replication.

Unveiling unique protein and phosphorylation signatures in lung adenocarcinomas with and without ALK, EGFR, and KRAS genetic alterations

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Proteomic and phosphoproteomic analyses were performed on lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD) tumors with EGFR, KRAS, or EML4–ALK alterations and wild‐type cases. Distinct protein expression and phosphorylation patterns were identified, especially in EGFR‐mutated tumors. Key altered pathways included vesicle transport and RNA splicing.
