African swine fever virus (ASFV) is endemic to African wild pigs (Phacochoerus and Potamochoerus), in which viral infection is asymptomatic, and Ornithodoros soft ticks. However, ASFV causes a lethal disease in Eurasian domestic pigs (Sus scrofa).
