Response of viscoelastic damping system modeled by fractional viscoelastic oscillator

Proceedings of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, Part C: Journal of Mechanical Engineering Science, 2016
The fractional model considering geometric factor of viscoelastic damping systems is proposed by adopting fractional viscoelastic oscillator. To obtain dynamic responses of the fractional model, a numerical method is derived based on matrix function theory and Grumwald–Letnikov discrete form of fractional derivative.

Analysis of damped vibrations of linear viscoelastic plates with damping modeled with fractional derivatives

Signal Processing, 2006
Damped vibrations of a rectangular viscoelastic plate, whose dynamic behaviour is described by a set of three linear equations in three mutually orthogonal displacements of points of its median surface, are considered. Damping features of the plate are determined by fractional derivatives with respect to time.

Characterisation and modelling of viscoelastically damped sandwich structures

International Journal of Mechanical Sciences, 2010
A passive damping technique with viscoelastic materials is analysed in the present work. Concretely, the constrained layer damping (CLD) configuration, also known as viscoelastically damped sandwich structure, is considered. For an efficient dynamical analysis of viscoelastically damped structures, an accurate material characterisation and suitable ...

A viscoelastic model for flexible fibers with material damping

Powder Technology, 2015
Abstract In order to quantify the material damping of deformed flexible fibers, a linear viscoelastic sphere-chain model based on the discrete element method is presented. In the model the interaction between any two neighboring spheres connected by a visual bond is modeled as springs and dash-pots which can be characterized by the bond stiffness and

Finite element model for damping optimization of viscoelastic sandwich structures

Advances in Engineering Software, 2013
In this work a simple and efficient finite element model is used for the damping optimization of multilayer sandwich plates, with a viscoelastic core sandwiched between elastic layers, including piezoelectric layers. The elastic layers are modeled using the classical plate theory and the core is modeled using Reddy's third-order shear deformation ...

A reduction model for eigensolutions of damped viscoelastic sandwich structures

Mechanics Research Communications, 2014
The aim of this paper is to develop a reduction method to determine the modal characteristics of viscoelastic sandwich structures. The method is based on the high order Newton algorithm and reduction techniques. Numerical tests have been performed in the case of sandwich beams and cylindrical shells.

Damping: An Introduction to Viscoelastic Models

1999
This chapter provides an examination of viscoelastic damping normally characterized by hysteresis, a complex modulus or frequency dependent damping. Viscoelastic damping exhibited in polymeric and glassy materials as well as in some enamels. Such materials are often added to structures and devices to increase the amount of damping.

Transfer function modeling of damping mechanisms in viscoelastic plates

32nd Structures, Structural Dynamics, and Materials Conference, 1991
This work formulates a method for the modeling of material damping characteristics in plates. The Sophie German equation of classical plate theory is modified to incorporate hysteresis effects represented by complex stiffness using the transfer function approach proposed by Golla and Hughes, (1985).

Numerical modeling and model updating for smart laminated structures with viscoelastic damping

Smart Materials and Structures, 2018
Abstract This paper presents a numerical modeling method combined with model updating techniques for the analysis of smart laminated structures with viscoelastic damping. Starting with finite element formulation, the dynamics model with piezoelectric actuators is derived based on the constitutive law of the multilayer plate structure.
