Crack Initiation in Viscoelastic Materials [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Review Letters, 2018
In viscoelastic materials, individually short-lived bonds collectively result in a mechanical resistance which is long-lived but finite, as ultimately cracks appear. Here we provide a microscopic mechanism by which cracks emerge from the nonlinear local bond dynamics.

Damping parameters of a steel structure with a viscoelastic layer in the base node [PDF]

open access: yesMATEC Web of Conferences, 2019
The aim of the article is to estimate the damping properties of a steel structural element equipped with a viscoelastic layer (VS) in the base node. The viscoelastic material has a good energy dissipation properties, has a relatively high strength, and ...

Viscoelastic-Induced Interlamellar Stromal Keratopathy (VISK) during Cataract Surgery in a Patient with a History of Laser in situ Keratomileusis

open access: yesCase Reports in Ophthalmology, 2022
A 47-year-old patient status post uncomplicated bilateral LASIK treatment presented with interlamellar stromal keratopathy induced by viscoelastic material during cataract surgery, decreasing her vision to CF (count fingers) postoperatively.

Mathematical modeling of viscoelastic foam material for design of filtering respirators [PDF]

open access: yesE3S Web of Conferences, 2023
The work is devoted to the development of a mathematical model of the foam material of the filtering half mask. The analysis of the methods used to study the leveling of the negative effect of the compression pressure of the filtering half-mask on the ...

Modeling of thermo‐viscoelastic material behavior of glass over a wide temperature range in glass compression molding

open access: yesJournal of The American Ceramic Society, 2020
In glass compression molding, most current modeling approaches of temperature‐dependent viscoelastic behavior of glass materials are restricted to thermo‐rheologically simple assumption.

Impact Fatigue of Viscoelastic Materials Subjected to Pounding

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2018
The pounding tuned mass damper (PTMD) is a novel vibration control device that can be used for many different structures. The PTMD utilizes a viscoelastic delimiter to enhance its vibration control effectiveness and robustness though pounding between the

Viscoelasticity of granular materials

open access: yesMechanics of Materials, 1995
Abstract In a former work (V.T. Granik and M. Ferrari (1993), Microstructural mechanics of granular media, Mech. Mater. 15, 301–322) a micromechanical theory for elastic granular media was deduced on the basis of the identification of the constituent grains with the nodes of a Bravais lattice.

Viscoelastic damping design – Thermal impact on a constrained layer damping treatment

open access: yesMaterials & Design, 2021
Constrained layer damping treatments have been commonly used for vibration damping. The included viscoelastic material exhibits high damping potential that is retrieved under shear deformation.
