The Viscous Torsional Vibration Damper

SAE Technical Paper Series, 1947

THE theory of the untuned viscous damper is developed mathematically here by Mr. O'Connor to show that its characteristics are such as to make practical the use of silicone fluid as a damping medium.

That this type of damper achieves a ...

Experimental Study on Magnetic Fluids Viscous Damper

Key Engineering Materials, 2011
Magnetic fluids viscous damper is a new type of dampers, whose structure including magnetic fluids, permanent magnet and a non-magnetic container. Inside the non-magnetic container, magnetic fluids supports the permanent magnet to suspense in it and moves as a working element.

The partially filled viscous ring damper

11th Aerospace Sciences Meeting, 1973
The problem of a spinning satellite with a partially filled viscous ring damper is investigated. It is shown that there are two distinct modes of motion, the nutation-synchronous mode and spin-synchronous mode. From an approximate solution of the equations of motion a time constant is obtained for each mode.

Viscous damper optimization in multistorey building structures

2023

Implementation of Structural Control with Viscous Damper

Applied Mechanics and Materials, 2011
For the sake of safety of structures subjected to abnormal loadings, damper could be one of the effective devices to reduce the responses by the energy dispassion functions. Key points in the process of development and application of damper and aseismatic engineering are narrated.

Modeling Torque Converter Clutch Viscous Damper Performance

SAE Technical Paper Series, 1985

A viscous damper is used as part of the automatic transaxle torque converter in some new passenger cars for improved driveability and fuel economy. A viscous silicone fluid is a critical component of the damper. Fluid viscosity-shear rate characteristics were determined in the laboratory for temperatures of 25 to ...

Fluid viscous dampers for high‐rise buildings

The Structural Design of Tall and Special Buildings, 2003
AbstractUsing supplemental fluid viscous dampers to dissipate energy and reduce building response to dynamic inputs is gaining worldwide acceptance. The concept of supplemental dampers added to a structure is that they absorb much of the energy input to the structure from a transient, not by the structure itself, but rather by supplemental damping ...

A New Type of Nonlinear Viscous Damper

Applied Mechanics and Materials, 2012
In order to satisfy the needs in engineering practice,a new type of nonlinear viscous damper with conical valves is developed. There is a through hole and two valves in the piston of the damper. When the damper work, the fluid flows throw the hole and the regulators, then the energy is consumed.

Fractional‐Derivative Maxwell Model for Viscous Dampers

Journal of Structural Engineering, 1991
A fractional-derivative Maxwell model is proposed for viscous dampers, which are used for vibration isolation of piping systems, forging hammers, and other industrial equipment, as well as for vibration and seismic isolation of building structures. The development and calibration of the model is based on experimentally observed dynamic characteristics.
