The modal equations with viscous damping

Computers & Structures, 1991
Abstract The modal equations are developed for a viscously damped system in free vibration. The solution to these equations, containing all of the system damped mode shapes, is accomplished by a converging iteration scheme. A computer program is included to solve the problem.

Vibration transducer with improved viscous damping

The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 1979
A vibration transducer has a cylinder for enclosing a viscous damping medium. A seismic mass in the form of a piston is mounted in the cylinder for axial oscillation with the aid of a spring suspension which is flexible in an axial direction and has its maximum stiffness at right angles to that axial direction to retain the piston against radial ...

The viscous damping of cnoidal waves

Journal of Fluid Mechanics, 1976
The viscous damping of cnoidal waves progressing over a smooth horizontal bed is investigated. First approximations are derived for the attenuation of wave height with distance and for the friction coefficient at the bed. Attenuation coefficients are larger than those predicted on the basis of shallow-water sinusoidal wave theory and, unlike the case ...

Equivalent Viscous Damping for Yielding Structures

Journal of the Engineering Mechanics Division, 1968
The paper treats the application of the concept of equivalent viscous damping to the steady-state response of simple yielding structures subjected to sinusoidal excitation. Using the elasto-plastic oscillator as an example, it is shown that results differing by several hundred per cent can be obtained, depending on the way that the resonant frequency ...

Viscous Damping of Vibrating Metal Bars

Nature, 1933
WITH the exception of those made by K. Honda and S. Konno1 and also those by K. lokibe and S. Sakai2, few measurements of viscous damping in metals have been made. I have made some experiments concerning this problem with the assistance of Mr. K. Kubo3.

Viscous Damping of Magnetohydrodynamic Surface Waves

1991
The magnet ohydro dynamic surface wave propagation on a single magnetic interface in a cold plasma is considered. The ion viscosity is taken into account. The dispersion equation is obtained and investigated in the low-frequency approximation. The equation governing the evolution of small-amplitude nonlinear waves is derived.
