Dissipation and discretization in time marching CFD calculation [PDF]

open access: yes, 1995
This thesis concentrates on accuracy improvements for an existing software package that solves the three dimensional Reynolds Averaged Navier-Stokes equations in rotating coordinates. It is a cell centred explicit time marching code.

Energy dissipation in viscous-plastic sea-ice models [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
In viscous-plastic (VP) sea-ice models, small deformations are approximated by irreversible viscous deformations, introducing a nonphysical energy sink.

Current Status and Challenges in Data Collection for Aerospace Coatings Deposited by Plasma Spraying

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
An innovative approach has been integrated into the GRENAT project to optimize plasma spraying and coating performance. Raw materials are accelerated and melted in the plasma generated by torches, creating coatings. Monitoring sensors collect process data which are combined with ex situ characterization data.

Two-dimensional magnetohydrodynamic turbulence in the limits of infinite and vanishing magnetic Prandtl number [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
LAKB was supported by an EPSRC post-graduate studentship. We study both theoretically and numerically two-dimensional magnetohydrodynamic turbulence at infinite and zero magnetic Prandtl number $Pm$ (and the limits thereof), with an emphasis on solution ...

Designing Polymer Nanocomposites for X‐Ray Shielding: Mechanisms, Architectures, and Scalable Processing

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This review highlights advances in lightweight, lead‐free polymer nanocomposites for diagnostic X‐ray shielding. By linking filler chemistry, dispersion, architecture, and photon interaction mechanisms, it establishes structure–performance relationships guiding material design.

Energy dissipation and equivalent damping of RC columns subjected to biaxial bending: an investigation based in experimental results [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
The cyclic behaviour of reinforced concrete columns have been object of many experimental studies in the recent past years. However, the experimental studies on the biaxial response of RC columns are still limited.

Comparing Slab Viscous Dissipation Under Slab Distributed Weakening and Slab Segmentation Scenarios

open access: yesGeochemistry, Geophysics, Geosystems
Subduction of cold, dense oceanic lithosphere is a key driver of plate tectonics and mantle convection. However, how much gravitational potential energy is internally dissipated by slab deformation during subduction remains debated and largely depends on

Entropy analysis in electrical magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) flow of nanofluid with effects of thermal radiation, viscous dissipation, and chemical reaction

open access: yesTheoretical and Applied Mechanics Letters, 2017
The unsteady mixed convection flow of electrical conducting nanofluid and heat transfer due to a permeable linear stretching sheet with the combined effects of an electric field, magnetic field, thermal radiation, viscous dissipation, and chemical ...

New AI‐Assisted Approach for Expanding the Solution Space: Application to Lattice Structure Design

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This work introduces an innovative framework for designing structured materials by ex panding the design space through reparameterization of qualitative variables into continuous structural descriptors. Combined with machine‐learning‐based prediction and multi‐objective optimization, the approach enables the discovery of novel lattice architectures ...

Effect of Viscous Dissipation and Thermal Radiation on Heat Transfer over a Non-Linearly Stretching Sheet Through Porous Medium [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
In this present paper, we have discussed the effects of viscous dissipation and thermal radiation on heat transfer over a non-linear stretching sheet through a porous medium.
