A Case Report on Rehabilitation of the Asiatic Black Bear (Ursus thibetanus ussuricus) in the Wild 亚洲黑熊 (Ursus thibetanus ussuricus) 野外放归野化案例报告

open access: yesWildlife Letters, EarlyView.
Asiatic black bears in Russia face conservation threats such as habitat destruction and fragmentation, which exacerbate food shortages caused by crop failures. This study explores an innovative approach to rehabilitating bears that abandon hibernation in mid‐winter due to extreme exhaustion by providing supplemental food near their den sites.

Impact of mistletoe attack (Viscum album ssp. abietis) on the radial growth of silver fir. A case study in the North of Eastern Carpathians [PDF]

open access: yesAnnals of Forest Research, 2009
Viscum album ssp. abietis (Wiesb.) Abrom L. is one of the three subspecies of Viscum album L that is frequently encountered in Romanian forests. The mistletoe has notoriously negative effects on trees and forests health. The mistletoe infections not only

Changing climates and environments within the complex Middle to Late Pleistocene fill of an overdeepened valley at Niederweningen, Switzerland

open access: yesBoreas, EarlyView.
Glacially overdeepened valleys in the northern Alpine Foreland preserve Middle to Late Pleistocene sedimentary sequences that may serve as valuable archives for reconstructing past environmental changes in response to shifts in climate. This study presents a multidisciplinary analysis of two sediment cores from the overdeepened Wehntal Valley at ...

Towards an ‘absolute’ timing of biostratigraphic and environmental phases from the Saalian late glacial to the Weichselian pleniglacial in central Europe—Insights from a lacustrine succession in Lichtenberg, northern Germany

open access: yesBoreas, EarlyView.
Palynological records are central to the biostratigraphic subdivision of the Late Pleistocene in central Europe. Yet many interglacial and interstadial phases—such as the Eemian, Brörup and Odderade—remain only poorly constrained in time due to limited numerical dating.

Vestigial Plastids in Parasitic Plants: Evolutionary Remnants or Adaptive Innovations?

open access: yesPlant, Cell &Environment, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Throughout the evolutionary history of plants, chloroplasts originating from a cyanobacterial endosymbiosis have undergone remarkable adaptation and specialization, giving rise to a multitude of plastid types. The evolution toward parasitism in plants represents a particularly extreme case of such specialization.

Geometrical isomerization of hydroxycinnamic acid under UV‐light: Structural plasticity as a driver of metabolite complexity

open access: yesPhotochemistry and Photobiology, EarlyView.
UV irradiation drives metabolite complexity through photoisomerization of hydroxycinnamic acid‐containing compounds in plants. The olefin functional group of hydroxycinnamic acid enables structural plasticity through trans/cis isomerization. Multiple chromophores within a molecule can amplify UV‐induced transformations.
