An illumination perspective on visible light communications

IEEE Communications Magazine, 2014
Visible light communications are the offspring of well studied infrared wireless systems and can form a promising enhancement of future illumination infrastructures with communication functionalities. However, supporting data rates of hundreds of megabits per second cannot come for free with respect to lighting system costs.

Visible Light Communication

2013 Texas Instruments India Educators' Conference, 2013
Light Emitting Diodes are set to penetrate many areas of everyday life. An interesting property of these devices in addition to their lightening capabilities, is that they can also be utilised for data transmissions as well. LED's require low power for their operation and have very high switching speeds.

Visible light communications

36th European Conference and Exhibition on Optical Communication, 2010
Visible light communication is a novel way of indoor communication. In this scenario, we present the novel idea of location-based services such as indoor navigation systems, where users can tell where they are by detecting a signal from LED lights.

Light-emitting diodes for visible light communication

2015 International Wireless Communications and Mobile Computing Conference (IWCMC), 2015
Conventional LEDs always pursue the high brightness for solid-state lighting, however, they always exhibit very low frequency bandwidth of tens MHz. As an application, visible light communication (VLC) is not only for illumination but also for data transmission communication, which is a kind of optical wireless communication that uses the visible white

A SNR analysis of the visible light channel environment for visible light communication

2012 18th Asia-Pacific Conference on Communications (APCC), 2012
In this paper, we provide Signal-to-Noise Ratio (SNR) analysis of visible light channel environment reflecting practical conditions for the usage of Visible Light Communication (VLC) in Intelligent Transportation System (ITS). Considering practical LED lights (Headlamp and Streetlamp), we perform 3D computer simulations in two ITS scenario.

Optical OFDM for visible light communications

2017 13th International Wireless Communications and Mobile Computing Conference (IWCMC), 2017
Visible light communication (VLC) has become a promising complement to its radio-frequency (RF) counterpart. In VLC systems, orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) has drawn much attention due to its high data rate, simple equalization and robustness to the inter-symbol interference (ISI).

Turboboosting Visible Light Backscatter Communication

Proceedings of the Annual conference of the ACM Special Interest Group on Data Communication on the applications, technologies, architectures, and protocols for computer communication, 2020
Visible light backscatter communication (VLBC) presents an emerging low power IoT connectivity solution with spatial reuse and interference immunity advantages over RF-based (backscatter) technologies. State-of-the-art VLBC systems employ COTS LCD shutter as optical modulator, whose slow response fundamentally throttles its data rate to sub-Kbps, and ...

Shore-to-Undersea Visible Light Communication

Wireless Personal Communications, 2017
In this paper, a novel visible light based shore-to-undersea (S2US) communication is proposed. It considers various properties of both maritime and undersea environments such as wave height, wind speed, and absorption. A lighthouse transmits the signal using white light emitting diodes (LEDs) and this signal is received by a buoy that acts as a beacon ...
