When someone has low vision

open access: yesCommunity Eye Health Journal, 2012
As clinicians, being faced with a patient whose vision we cannot improve any further can make us feel like a failure. However, there are many ways to help such a person with low vision.

Machines that test Software like Humans [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2018
Automated software testing involves the execution of test scripts by a machine instead of being manually run. This significantly reduces the amount of manual time & effort needed and thus is of great interest to the software testing industry. There have been various tools developed to automate the testing of web applications (e.g.

Flight test of a vision device [PDF]

open access: yesAIAA/IEEE Digital Avionics Systems Conference. 13th DASC, 2002
This paper describes flight test of a research external viewing device (REVD). The REVD was designed and down as a substitute for forward vision through a wind screen, constructed of optical lenses and mirrors, and evaluated during approaches and landings.

Roulette‐Inspired Physical Unclonable Functions: Stochastic yet Deterministic Multi‐Bit Patterning through the Solutal Marangoni Effect

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Geometric multi‐bit patterning based on dynamic wetting and dewetting phenomena creates roulette‐like Physical Unclonable Function (PUF) labels with stochastic yet deterministic properties. This method leverages the solutal‐Marangoni effect for high randomness while achieving deterministic multinary patterns through polygonal confinement of binary ...

Computer Vision with Error Estimation for Reduced Order Modeling of Macroscopic Mechanical Tests

open access: yesComplexity, 2018
In this paper, computer vision enables recommending a reduced order model for fast stress prediction according to various possible loading environments. This approach is applied on a macroscopic part by using a digital image of a mechanical test.

An atypical presentation of visual conversion disorder

open access: yesJournal of Optometry, 2015
Nonorganic vision loss accounts for up to 5% of patients and presents in two forms, malingering and visual conversion disorder (VCD). It is described a case of VCD in a new mother struggling both with her husband being deployed overseas and the recent ...

Development of Computer Vision-Enhanced Smart Golf Ball Retriever [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
An automatic vehicle system was developed to assist golfers in collecting golf balls from a practice field. Computer vision methodology was utilized to enhance the detection of golf balls in shallow and/or deep grass regions. The free software OpenCV was

Temperature‐Resilient Polymeric Memristors for Effective Deblurring in Static and Dynamic Imaging

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A thermally stable organic memristor based on a thiadiazolobenzotriazole (TBZ) and 2,5‐Dioctyl‐3,6‐di(thiophen‐2‐yl)pyrrolo[3,4‐c]pyrrole‐1,4(2H,5H)‐dione (DPP)‐based conjugated polymer is presented, demonstrating reliable, gradual resistance switching across a wide temperature range (153–573 K).

A Homeostatic Photonic Device Integrating Vapor‐Regulated Thermo‐Optical Feedback Mechanisms

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
An inorganic homeostatic photonic device is designed to autonomously regulate light, temperature, and vapor sorption through integrated positive and negative feedback mechanisms at multiple wavelengths. The device uses a graded mesoporous 1D photonic crystal coupled with a photothermal layer.

A Lost Opportunity for Vision-Language Models: A Comparative Study of Online Test-Time Adaptation for Vision-Language Models [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv
In deep learning, maintaining model robustness against distribution shifts is critical. This work explores a broad range of possibilities to adapt vision-language foundation models at test-time, with a particular emphasis on CLIP and its variants.
