Low latency vision-based control for robotics : a thesis presented in partial fulfilment of the requirements for the degree of Master of Engineering in Mechatronics at Massey University, Manawatu, New Zealand [PDF]
In this work, the problem of controlling a high-speed dynamic tracking and interception system using computer vision as the measurement unit was explored. High-speed control systems alone present many challenges, and these challenges are compounded when

Convolutional Neural Networks for Counting Fish in Fisheries Surveillance Video [PDF]
We present a computer vision tool that analyses video from a CCTV system installed on fishing trawlers to monitor discarded fish catch. The system aims to support expert observers who review the footage and verify numbers, species and sizes of discarded ...

Functional representation of vision within the mind: A visual consciousness model based in 3D default space [PDF]
The human eyes and brain, which have finite boundaries, create a ‘‘virtual’’ space within our central nervous system that interprets and perceives a space that appears boundless and infinite.

Predictors of orbital convergence in primates: A test of the snake detection hypothesis of primate evolution [PDF]
Traditional explanations for the evolution of high orbital convergence and stereoscopic vision in primates have focused on how stereopsis might have aided early primates in foraging or locomoting in an arboreal environment. It has recently been suggested

This study examines the mechanical properties of triply periodic minimal surfaces (TPMS)‐based lattices, analyzing 36 architectures in elastic and plastic regimes. It evaluates the applicability of beam‐based scaling laws to TPMS lattices. Rigidity arises from the alignment of members with the load direction and solid regions preventing rotation.
