2-Isoprenylemodin and 5,5′-dimethoxysesamin from vismia guaramirangae

Phytochemistry, 1982
Abstract The secondary metabolises γ-hydroxyferruginin A, madagascin, chrysophanic acid, physcion, β-caryophyllene, humulene, sitosterol, sesamin and a rare triterpene, dammaradienol were isolated from the bark and exudate of Vismia guaramirangae . The structures of a new anthraquinone, 2-isoprenylemodin, and of a new lignan, 5,5′-dimethoxysesamin ...

In vitro plant regeneration of Vismia guianensis through organogenesis

Plant Cell, Tissue and Organ Culture, 1999
A protocol for in vitro plant regeneration through organogenesis was established for Vismia guianensis(Hypericaceae), a species that produces an anti-cancer compound. The highest mean number of shoots per gram of callus (57.33) was obtained on Murashige and Skoog medium supplemented with 4.44 μM 6-benzyl-aminopurine, 5.70 μM indole-3-acetic acid and 12.

Nomenclatural and taxonomic notes on Vismia (Hypericaceae)

Phytotaxa
Vismia is a neotropical genus and in Brazil it is currently represented by 30 species. Along with the study of the species that occur in this country, we assessed the nomenclatural questions involved with their names, and a first part of these results are presented.

Vismiaquinone, a Δ1-isopentenyl substituted anthraquinone from Vismia reichardtiana

Phytochemistry, 1981
Abstract 1,8-Dihydroxy-7-(Δ1-isopentenyl)-6-methoxy-3-methylanthraquinone (vismiaquinone) was isolated from the leaves of Vismia reichardtiana. its structure was established through chemical and spectral means. A hypothesis for the biogenesis of the uncommon Δ1-isopentenyl side chain is presented.

Vismiaphenones D−G, New Prenylated Benzophenones from Vismia cayennensis

Journal of Natural Products, 1998
Following anti-HIV bioassay-guided fractionation, four new prenylated benzophenones, vismiaphenones D-G (7-10), were isolated from extracts of leaves of Vismia cayennensis. The structures were elucidated by spectral analyses. Only vismiaphenone D (7) exhibited HIV-inhibitory activity in the NCI primary screen.
