Two distinct neural mechanisms in early visual cortex determine subsequent visual processing

open access: yes, 2014
Neuroscience research has conventionally focused on how the brain processes sensory information, after the information has been received. Recently, increased interest focuses on how the state of the brain upon receiving inputs determines and biases their

process visualization.

open access: yes, 2005
Effective use of information requires organization, and organization involves various processes for visualizing the content of documents to improve information retrieval and recovery. One of the most important methods of content visualization is representation, which, through the specification of descriptors, indicates the thematic content of documents.

Long-Range Interocular Suppression in Adults with Strabismic Amblyopia: A Pilot fMRI Study

open access: yesVision, 2019
Interocular suppression plays an important role in the visual deficits experienced by individuals with amblyopia. Most neurophysiological and functional MRI studies of suppression in amblyopia have used dichoptic stimuli that overlap within the visual ...

Polarization‐resolved femtosecond Vis/IR spectroscopy tailored for resolving weak signals in biological samples using minimal sample volume

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Unique biological samples, such as site‐specific mutant proteins, are available only in limited quantities. Here, we present a polarization‐resolved transient infrared spectroscopy setup with referencing to improve signal‐to‐noise tailored towards tracing small signals. We provide an overview of characterizing the excitation conditions for polarization‐

Visual Field Advantage: Redefined by Training?

open access: yesFrontiers in Psychology, 2019
Previc (1990) postulated that most peri-personal space interactions occurred in the lower visual field (LVF), leading to an advantage when compared to the upper visual field (UVF).

Nuclear pore links Fob1‐dependent rDNA damage relocation to lifespan control

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Damaged rDNA accumulates at a specific perinuclear interface that couples nucleolar escape with nuclear envelope association. Nuclear pores at this site help inhibit Fob1‐induced rDNA instability. This spatial organization of damage handling supports a functional link between nuclear architecture, rDNA stability, and replicative lifespan in yeast.

A light‐triggered Time‐Resolved X‐ray Solution Scattering (TR‐XSS) workflow with application to protein conformational dynamics

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Time‐resolved X‐ray solution scattering captures how proteins change shape in real time under near‐native conditions. This article presents a practical workflow for light‐triggered TR‐XSS experiments, from data collection to structural refinement. Using a calcium‐transporting membrane protein as an example, the approach can be broadly applied to study ...

Cascading appearance-based features for visual voice activity detection

open access: yes, 2010
The detection of voice activity is a challenging problem, especially\ud when the level of acoustic noise is high. Most current\ud approaches only utilise the audio signal, making them susceptible\ud to acoustic noise. An obvious approach to overcome this\

An overview of interactive visual data mining techniques for knowledge discovery [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
n the past decade, the analysis of data has faced the challenge of dealing with very large and complex datasets and the real-time generation of data. Technologies to store and access these complex and large datasets are in place.
