The IQ‐compete assay for measuring mitochondrial protein import efficiencies in living yeast cells

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The efficiency of mitochondrial protein import depends on the properties of the newly synthesized precursor proteins. The Import and de‐Quenching Competition (IQ‐compete) assay is a novel method to monitor the import efficiency of different proteins by fluorescence in living yeast cells.

A study on the influence of situations on personal avatar characteristics

open access: yesVisual Computing for Industry, Biomedicine, and Art
Avatars play a key role in how persons interact within virtual environments, acting as the digital selves. There are many types of avatars, each serving the purpose of representing users or others in these immersive spaces.

On the Optimization of Visualizations of Complex Phenomena [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
The problem of perceptually optimizing complex visualizations is a difficult one, involving perceptual as well as aesthetic issues. In our experience, controlled experiments are quite limited in their ability to uncover interrelationships among ...

Targeting EZH2 reverses thyroid cell dedifferentiation and enhances iodide uptake in anaplastic thyroid cancer

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Anaplastic thyroid cancer (ATC) lacks iodide uptake ability due to MAPK activation increasing the expression of the histone methyltransferase EZH2, which represses thyroid differentiation genes (TDGs) such as the sodium iodide symporter (NIS). Dual inhibition of MAPK (U0126) and EZH2 (EPZ6438/Tazemetostat) reverses this mechanism, thus restoring TDG ...

MRI delta radiomics during chemoradiotherapy for prognostication in locally advanced cervical cancer

open access: yesBMC Cancer
Background Effective diagnostic tools for prompt identification of high-risk locally advanced cervical cancer (LACC) patients are needed to facilitate early, individualized treatment. The aim of this work was to assess temporal changes in tumor radiomics

Visualization of the Phosphoproteomic Data from AfCS with the Google Motion Chart Gadget [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Results from multivariate molecular biological experiments become increasingly complex. Hence, the challenge of projecting high-dimensional data onto few dimensions for effective data visualization is becoming increasingly important in Systems Biology ...

Comparing self‐reported race and genetic ancestry for identifying potential differentially methylated sites in endometrial cancer: insights from African ancestry proportions using machine learning models

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Integrating ancestry, differential methylation analysis, and machine learning, we identified robust epigenetic signature genes (ESGs) and Core‐ESGs in Black and White women with endometrial cancer. Core‐ESGs (namely APOBEC1 and PLEKHG5) methylation levels were significantly associated with survival, with tumors from high African ancestry (THA) showing ...
