Directed Navigation of Magnetotactic Bacteria via Magnetotaxis in a 3D Vasculature‐On‐A‐Chip

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
A perfusable vascular network is developed to investigate MTB at the single‐microorganism level. MTB is demonstrated to successfully align and navigate along the magnetic field inside the microvessels. Abstract Magnetotactic bacteria (MTB), inherently motile and self‐powered, are promising biorobotic candidates for targeted anti‐cancer drug delivery ...

Nanophotonic Strategies for Chiral Biosensing: Nanoparticles, Metasurfaces, Magneto‐Optical, and Quantum Approaches

open access: yesAdvanced Photonics Research, EarlyView.
Recent advances in nanophotonics‐based chiral biosensing approaches are comprehensively reviewed, highlighting key trends, advantages, and limitations of each technology. Special attention is given to emerging strategies that exploit magneto‐optical and quantum plasmonic phenomena to enhance sensitivity down to the level of a few molecules, or even a ...

Vitamin D: vitamin prošlosti, hormon budućnosti

open access: yesLiječnički vjesnik : glasilo Hrvatskoga liječničkog zbora, 2011
Rastuća je spoznaja o brojnim važnim fiziološkim učincima vitamina D u zadnjih desetak godina. Vitamin D regulira funkciju oko 3% ljudskog genoma. S druge strane prevalencija nedostatka vitamina D visoka je u različitim populacijama diljem svijeta uključujući i Hrvatsku. Članak daje prikaz metabolizma vitamina D te današnje spoznaje o učinku vitamina D

A novel Bartonella-like bacterium forms an interdependent mutualistic symbiosis with its host, the stored-product mite Tyrophagus putrescentiae

open access: yesmSystems
A novel Bartonella-like symbiont (BLS) of Tyrophagus putrescentiae was characterized. BLS formed a separate cluster from the Bartonella clade together with an ant symbiont. BLS was present in mite bodies (103 16S DNA copies/mite) and feces but was absent
