Comparative effectiveness of sodium‐glucose cotransporter‐2 inhibitors and glucagon‐like peptide‐1 receptor agonists for incident dementia: A retrospective multicohort study

open access: yesDiabetes, Obesity and Metabolism, EarlyView.
Abstract Objective This study provides real‐world evidence on the comparative effectiveness of glucagon‐like peptide‐1 receptor agonists (GLP‐1 RAs) and sodium‐glucose cotransporter‐2 inhibitors (SGLT2i) regarding the risk of incident dementia in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM).

Wealth inequality and epidemics in the Republic of Venice (1400–1800)

open access: yesThe Economic History Review, EarlyView.
Abstract This article analyses wealth inequality in the Republic of Venice during 1400–1800. The availability of a large database of homogeneous inequality measurements allows us to produce the most in‐depth study of the factors affecting inequality at the local level available thus far for any preindustrial society.

Motives and predictors of modified Atkins diet discontinuation as treatment of adults with drug‐resistant epilepsy

open access: yesEpilepsia, EarlyView.
Abstract Objective This study was undertaken to explore the motives and predictors of modified Atkins diet (MAD) discontinuation as a treatment of adults with drug‐resistant epilepsy (DRE). Methods A single‐center observational longitudinal study was made of a cohort of patients treated with MAD during the first 6 years at a multidisciplinary ...

Residual flexibility in the topologically constrained multivalent complex between the GKAP scaffold and LC8 hub proteins

open access: yesThe FEBS Journal, EarlyView.
The scaffold protein GKAP and the hub protein LC8 form a well‐defined hexameric complex, with the stoichiometry of 2 GKAP : 2 LC8 dimers. NMR and molecular dynamics calculations confirm that the LC8‐binding segment of GKAP is intrinsically disordered even in the complex form.

Common Hematologic Emergencies—Acute Promyelocytic Leukemia and Microangiopathic Hemolytic Anemias—A Pivotal Role of Clinical Laboratory

open access: yesInternational Journal of Laboratory Hematology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Hematologic emergencies are urgent health conditions which result in significant mortality and morbidity unless timely therapeutic measures are taken. Therapeutic success depends on their timely and accurate recognition by hematology laboratory services.

Chronic inflammation is not associated with attenuated sodium‐glucose co‐transporter 2 inhibitor‐induced hemoglobin increase in patients with diabetes

open access: yesJournal of Diabetes Investigation, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Aims/Introduction This study aimed to investigate whether the use of sodium‐glucose co‐transporter 2 inhibitors (SGLT2is) is associated with an increase in hemoglobin in the presence of chronic inflammation. Materials and Methods This is a matched‐pair cohort study.
