Emerging Therapeutic Strategies for Hearing Loss
Challenges still exist in treating hearing loss in cases of severe damage to hair cells or spiral ganglion neurons. Here, a schematic diagram of cochlear sensory hair cells and auditory nerves is presented. It is found that in normal Corti organs, hair cells have upright stereocilia at the top and auditory neurons at the base. Ototoxic drugs, noise, or

Ultra-Lithium-Deficient Halo Stars and Blue Stragglers: A Common Origin? [PDF]
We present data for four ultra-Li-deficient, warm, halo stars. The Li deficiency of two of these is a new discovery. Three of the four stars have effective temperatures Teff ~ 6300 K, in contrast to previously known Li-deficient halo stars which spanned the temperature range of the Spite Plateau.

Chronic stress may disrupt covariant fluctuations of vitamin D and cortisol plasma levels in pregnant sheep during the last trimester: a preliminary report [PDF]
Psychosocial stress during pregnancy is a known contributor to preterm birth, but also has been increasingly appreciated as an in utero insult acting long-term on prenatal and postnatal neurodevelopmental trajectories. These events impact many information molecules, including both vitamin D and cortisol.
